HELP choosing GPU!

Post by perryleros »

Hello everybody,

I found a 8800Ultra second hand for 350e so i started thinking of what gpu i should buy...
I can spend around 350e so my choices are the following:

1)Get the 8800Ultra second hand for 350e
2)Get the 8800GTS g92 for 280e
3)Get 3870x2 for 380e (i know its an nvidia forum but just adding it as a reference to compare the other two)

What sounds the best way to go? (I am not interested in Nvidia's new Geforce 9800GX2 because its out of my budget for sure..)

(Rest of my pc is: intel C2D [email protected] , 2gb 800Mhz ram, 600W psu, Asus P5k Deluxe Wifi/ap mobo...)

Thanks,
Perry

G92 GTS IMO. It performs real close to the Ultra, it has ton of overclocking headroom, it's cheaper and it runs cooler.

Yep, I would also go for 8800GTS. I think it has the best price/performance for money.
It't not that smart always have and purchase top-of-the-line cards, and when nVidia introduces some new graphic card, the prices can fall from 20-30%. So 8800GTS will be more then enough for now, and we'll see what new graphic will nVidia produce in months to come..

I would go with the 8800GTS over the Ultra. performance will be close but you will get the warranty with the GTS.. and at $264 at newegg that markkleb linked.. you cant go wrong.

Don't buy the Ultra just because it's 2nd hand.I would say a 3870X2 which is beating even Ultras & with more mature drivers it'll improve even more.

Thanks all,

I ordered an XFX 8800GTS 512 for 280e.
the 3870x2 was just too expensive... I never had an ATI card so i was not sure if i can trust it with 400e.. so i got the nvidia one and im happy now :D
