2 Questions

Post by vicaphit »

Since the videocard contest is finally over, I would like to buy an 8800 GT. I found the MSI 8800GT 512MB for $184.99 after MIR here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814127324
Anyone have MSI? I currently enjoy my XFX card, but they are more expensive, and I like to save as much money as I can as long as I still get quality parts.

If someone can reccomend this card to me, I may get it, if someone can give me a horror story, I may avoid it.

Second question:

I am running a dual monitor set up, one is an HDTV and the other is a 19inch CRT. The resolutions that appear for the CRT are all messed up, they seem to all be inverted widescreen and standard resolutions. Here is an example, instead of 1280x720, the choice is 720x1280, or 1024x1280.

I don't understand why it would do that, becuase the monitor can't display widescreen, and there doesn't seem to be any options enabled to change the screen sideways or anything. I have tried reinstalling drives and had no luck.

Thanks for the help.

MSI is a pretty good brand. I dont have a MSI card, but i do have a MSI motherboard and it has performed great. I am not sure what to say about you CRT display- is it set up as your primary or secondary monitor.. that might have something to do with it.

LOL, I bought 2 of the ECS version...(I never thought I would hear myself saying that)

I think as long as you get it through Newegg you are fine as their return policy is pretty good. For me usually electronic stuff goes bad in the beginning or lasts a long time so their 30 day return policy is fine.

To the monitors, can their order be reversed? (is one listed as #1 and the other as #2)
I am 24% addicted to Counterstrike. What about you?

I have tried the primary/secondary switch, and that didnt seem to help. there are 3 different resolutions that are correct, so I just leave it at one of those, but I would like to be able to change resolutions in games, which show the messed up resolutions as well.

Edit: Just ordered the MSI card from the Egg, Can't wait to get it!

MSI makes decent stuff. Should be fine.

As for the monitor situation, check out UltraMon. http://www.download.com/UltraMon/3000-2 ... 66183.html

I have two of those MSI cards running in my rig right now. I have no complaints.
At that price, you should have bought two of them. Does your mobo support SLI?
Be careful of the MIR for NewEgg, it's very strict and you have little time to send it in.
I lost out on a MIR for some memory from them because I didn't act on it soon enough.

well, I am ok with the price at $205 as well, so if I miss the MIR I won't be too upset.

My MoBo doesn't support SLI, but if I eventually upgrade I may look into getting another.
The card is supposed to arrive tomorrow, I am pretty excited.

They're all made my nVidia, so just buy any brand that offers a lifetime warranty and you're all set. When it comes, open up rivatuner and OC the hell out of it.

With all of those registry warnings, I am afraid to use Rivatuner

Also, I was really excited to get my package this morning, but it didn't arrive to my house until 30 minutes after I left for work. The thing is sitting on my doorstep and I can't play with it until 10pm tonight!

I have pretty much planned out all of my vacation for the next 6 months, so that isn't easily done... I considered using a couple of hours of sick pay, but I know I would just break my arm next week and need every bit of sick pay I had!
