9600GT recalled, 9800X2 delayed

I hope that this is not true...
IT LOOKS LIKE Nvidia is firing on no cylinders lately. The firm can't seem to get a product out on time. There is one bright spot: the count on the 9600GT delays has gone up by 50 per cent.

That may not be a bright spot, but the so far twice delayed 9600GT, (specs here) appears to have been recalled. Some OEMs are getting the call to yank them, others not yet, or not at the time they talked to us. What this means is more and more delay, this time we are not sure how much though. An educated guess would be CeBIT, because what else are they going to launch there?

Oh yes, we probably should mention that the 9800X2, or whatever they call it, has also moved from CeBIT to the end of March, for now.

Well, if it is true, looks like DAAMIT has some breathing room for a little while.

agh! grr... i guess i might as well just save for a 8800GTS 512 instead of waiting for the 9xxx series to rear its head

Well there goes any chance of being able to use the "step-up" program. This doesn't change the way I feel about nVidia in the least. This is just the type of break that ATI needs to close the gap and keep the competition closer.

Another thing to point out... Nvidia recalled select samples of the 8800GTX before the official launch from select OEMs due to wrong resistors being used on them.

Mid 2005 we had the 7800, early 2006 was the 7900 series refresh, November of that same year was the 8800GTX launch. Now it has been 16 months since Nvidia released a new flagship GPU (Ignoring the Ultra, which is the same, if super-overclocked card)... They are sure taking their sweet time.

this is true, ATI has come out with an entirely new [high end] card 3 times in the last 2 quarters(from 2900>3870>3870X2>4k series this quarter(most likely))

I was the first to show what resistor they changed - http://www.legitreviews.com/article/417/1/

Well it's taken ATI till now with their 3870X2 to catch up to nvida's level. See how decent competition in the market helps the consumer :P

4k series this quarter(most likely))
yeah right... give me what you're smoking!

remember Legit Reviews had the exclusive first pictures of the R680 (Radeon HD 3870 X2) way back in November and that card didn't launch till Jan 28, 2008.... No pictures of R700 or a 4k series card has been spotted and no numbers have been leaked... that tells you it's a good 2+ months away and that would be at least Q2 ;)

Well, the 2900XT was new, yes. The 3870 was a refined, shrunken version of the 2900XT, so not really new. And the 3870 X2 is only two of them combined... so technically I would consider all of them a single class of GPUs, since they all involve the same basic core. Thankfully R700 will be something genuinely new, I just hope it does well enough they can do more than target the low/mid/mid-high markets with it and go for the gold. :)

INQ had a good timeline for R700 mentioned in an article... I'd posted it in some other thread here already, but a little searching will bring it up. I don't believe half the stuff they publish, but so far my bets would be with them as that particular article made sense and fits what I know about the industry.

Back on topic, safe to say no worries about the 9600XT, err, 9600GT being delayed... 8)
