Sony AR41E 8400m GT Problem

Hello everyone.
The problem I have is with the original drivers I could connect to my HD TV and adjust the settings up to 1080P (but only went to 1080i as this is the most my TV would accept) via a HDMI cable.
Im was playing HD-DVD/Blu-Ray content from my hard drive as I only have a normal drive.
Then when I updated the drivers via Sony or Windows the most I can go is 576p and the control panel says I'm connecting by DVI not HDMI ( which doesn't make alot of difference as I'm not using the HDMI for sound).
I rolled back but then had trouble connecting again.
I spoke to Sony who are as much help as an ashtray on a bike with this and they said roll back which really isn't the answer I believe (no point having updated drivers if they mean you go backwards!).
I was running Vista Home Premium 32-bit but now I'm using Vista Ultimate 64-bit with Nvidia driver version 7.15.11.6743 but this has made no difference.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks.

Pete.

the only thing i can think of is maybe its not letting you go higher because of HDCP (Hi-Def Content Protection) If you went straight HDMI that might solve the problem I know that HDCP is supposed to limit Hi Def movies to lower resolutions if it isnt handled a certain way. sorry i cant be more helpful but look into HDCP and maybe youll find your answer

Thanks for answering Honkus.
When you say about straight HDMI if you mean using an HDMI cable then thats what im using. With the original drivers is says HDMI in the Nvidia control panel but every variation of drivers after that says im connecting via DVI which I an not.
I am connecting through an HDMI splitter but I wouldn't of thought that would have made any difference but I could try connecting directly.
If nothing works then i'll roll back to original drivers.

yeah some splitters can cause problems with HDCP try connecting directly and if that doesn't work try rolling back to the previous drivers I got a Toshiba laptop with an 8700m gt and the whole hdmi thing gives me a headache every new driver too lol
