Sony AR41E 8400m GT Problem

Hello everyone.
The problem I have is with the original drivers I could connect to my HD TV and adjust the settings up to 1080P (but only went to 1080i as this is the most my TV would accept) via a HDMI cable.
Im was playing HD-DVD/Blu-Ray content from my hard drive as I only have a normal drive.
Then when I updated the drivers via Sony or Windows the most I can go is 576p and the control panel says I'm connecting by DVI not HDMI ( which doesn't make alot of difference as I'm not using the HDMI for sound).
I rolled back but then had trouble connecting again.
I spoke to Sony who are as much help as an ashtray on a bike with this and they said roll back which really isn't the answer I believe (no point having updated drivers if they mean you go backwards!).
I was running Vista Home Premium 32-bit but now I'm using Vista Ultimate 64-bit with Nvidia driver version 7.15.11.6743 but this has made no difference.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks.
Pete.
