According to *cough* toms hardware *cough*, the 7950GX2 is actually on par with the 8800GTS 640MB (G80).

Their SLI charts don't show much performance gain from adding a second 7950GX2, the overall average gain showed a 12% improvement. Some games didn't register an improvement from sli'ing with any cards. The 8800GTS 640MB SLI however showed a 31% performance gain overall going from one to two cards.

It seems that the trend is that in games where SLI is supported well, the biggest performance came from the quad sli, but in games where sli wasn't supported (well) the 8800GTS did better. It looks like there were more games that didn't support the quad sli as well as the normal sli.

Toms charts however do not include the new G90 based GTS, which beats the old G80 GTS, (and they don't actually include a stock clocked 8800GT either).
So the G90 GTS will beat the 7950GX2 by even more than their G80 GTS. This would actually put the GX2's closest competitor as being the 8800GT.

Based off of Toms charts I can easily guestimate that 8800GT SLI will also beat 7950GX2 SLI.

In short, the quad SLI of the GX2 does not look to be a good investment for the returns you will get. Quad SLI just hasnt been optimised enough im afraid.

Getting a second one would be waste of money.
