?? Embarrassing: *WHICH* GTS 8800 ??
Hi all,
This is about as noob as it can get. I'm almost embarrassed to even ask. I'm looking to get a GeForce 8800 GTS. At the nVidia site, however, there are seveal manufacturers of this card. Take a look here please.
My guess is that nVidia makes the GPU but other manufacturers actually build the boards around the GPU, is that right? If so, can anyone recommend a particular 8800 GTS? My guess is that they are not all created equal. I was thinking of getting an XFX.
I don't need any games. So, if I can purchase the card without games that would be ideal, as I assume a portion of the cost of the card goes to cover the games.
Thanks very much to all.

I'm partial to EVGA for their step up program and warranty.

Personally, I go with the card that gives you the most power for the money.

i would go with XFX, they have a very competitvie price, and there warrenty covers just about everything short of taking a bath with your card

evga, and BFG have always done me well.. my current is a BFG and it rocks.. make sure you get the 512mb and not the 640mb.. 512 is better all across the board..its the new version of the 8800GTS.
Newegg.com seems to always have the best prices. and usally you can find one with free shipping.

XFX is a great brand, that is the brand I'm currently using. I've also used BFG in the past, also great. When I buy new video cards for myself or others I'll usually only buy between BFG, XFX, and EVGA, whichever is offering the best deal.

This might not be the best time to buy a 8800GTS 512MB as there's some new chippery coming within just couple weeks.
G92 will be shrinked to 55nm so 8800GTS 512MB will soon become extinct as it will be replaced with 9800GT 512MB with the new G92b 55nm core.
But if you insist on buying a 8800GTS, I'd sas you can't go wrong with eVGA.

EVGA, XFX or BFG, whichever gives you the best bang for you buck. I've have a BFG and I love it. I chose BFG because at the time they offered the best price and their warranty service is excellent too.

I have a pair of the eVGA 8800GTS 512 (SLI). They operate flawlessly for everything I run. eVA also offers a lifetime warranty, and an option to have replacement cards cross shipped with even Saturday delivery and overnight service, for a one time fee of $20, as long as you reg the card within 30 days of purchase.
I hope saying this doesn't void my chances at the XFX card contest here....;-)

You honestly can't go wrong with one of these 3. Most of the reviews for all 3 brands are great and their customer service/warranty is normally outstanding. Just check out some of the reviews and compare prices or you could always put their names in a hat heh.....

Also watch for what comes with the card. For example XFX gives out COD4 with some cards, I've seen bundles wth the witcher, etc. Also the cables and adapters included in the box like an HDTV cable or a DVDi-HDMI adapter are useful if you have an HDTV.
