I'd like to try that. But I'll have no warranty, and I heard changing video card BIOS is a bit hard. Anyone want to verify that?
For fellow Canadians/Torontonians. Canada Computers has the 9600GSO for $126.99.

Hmm. The mod only works with the 9600GSO overclock version sold in Asia and the Americas. Guess the one from Canada Computers won't work then.

didnt read the article through, but im 100% positive Canada is in the America's. You know, North America, seeing as we are the largest country in the Continent, and on this side of the world
...
sorry, but i just couldnt not type that
and the one from Canada Computers http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.ph ... 99.243.390, the specs on it match niether of the cards listed on the website that originally broke the story http://vga.zol.com.cn/94/940802.html so I'm not sure who's got what info wrong

the americas means north and south america. that means the only ones that wouldnt work are ones sold in europe and africa (if they even do sell them there)

The Galaxy overclocked editions have always been widely available so I'm hoping we see them in stores soon.
Is this the same one? : http://www.galaxytech.com/Product_Detai ... &class2=56
From reading the article it appears that the card is a 384mb version but has the disabled memory chips onboard.

Re: Softmod Galaxy 9600GSO into a 8800GTS 512MB
from what i gather, the 256bit memory one is the one with 512mb onboard, the 192bit has 384mb
Re: Softmod Galaxy 9600GSO into a 8800GTS 512MB
That's because the other 128MB is disabled by the BIOS. Thus, if the Canada Computers version supports this softmod, then we can all get 8800GTS 512MB performance for under $130. However, the Canada Computers one isn't even close to the one seen in the guide, let alone it being the overclocked version.hainer36 wrote:from what i gather, the 256bit memory one is the one with 512mb onboard, the 192bit has 384mb
Even the Chinese Galaxy site states that the specs are 384MB with 192 bit, not 384MB with 256 bit or stuff.
It could be the same one. I'm not sure though.slugbug wrote:The Galaxy overclocked editions have always been widely available so I'm hoping we see them in stores soon.

Re: Softmod Galaxy 9600GSO into a 8800GTS 512MB
I could be wrong but I think they may have used 8800GTS PCBs for their first batch of cards and simply disabled the extra memory chips. If that's the case then subsequent batches might not be the same.
I guess we'll have to wait and see if and when the Overclocked Editions show up on this side of the pond.
