I'm using a 8500gts and why is it so freaking hot even on idle? its measuring around 70- 72C on idle! Is it because its not fixed in properly or something? Please advice.

Is it passive or active cooling? (With or without a fan)

If you're certain that you've perfected the airflow into and out of your case, then first check your bios setting. Reset the bios settings to default if you got a lot of tweaks for OCing. Other than that, another problem could be if you're using aftermarket thermal paste.

Also, GPU-Z the card. See if everything is running at its stock clocking speeds.

download riva tuner and turn the fan all the way up. this is normal for cards running at the auto fan speed
