Hey guys...need help...Just got my gtx 280 in today and I hooked it up and all..booted up fine first time around got into the bios(which is weird as it looked like it was reset to default settings)..but then after I rebooted it...wouldn't boot..power will turn on, fans spin..I used the power adapters that came with the card on my PSU(see sig)..i even read the directions on how to hook the power up just in case..it would turn on, then 5 seconds later it would shut off..then another 5 seconds later it will turn on on its own..the green light(for sufficient power) was on the whole time..I noticed tho after the fan on it slowed way down..the light turned red...I rebooted after that...and the light was green..Now..on command i gently move one of the power cables to the card(just touching it basically) and it will go to red..All wires and cables have been checked and plugged in..for 575 watts minimum (and i have 650) this is somewhat throwing me off as i've seen in the review article that Apop had a 620 watter going with no hitch..

I don't care for the splitters provided for the graphics card and I believe It's best to use the power connector(s) from the PSU to power it up. Also, the motherboard or PSU could be faulty. That particular PSU may not be strong enough to power the 280 or the motherboard could be having problems getting the power necessary to power up all the devices. In most(maybe all) cases, the card itself wouldn't cause power failure to the system, but try powering the system without connecting power to the graphics card. If there is still inefficient power to the system, troubleshoot the mobo and PSU.

If you can't restore the system, you may have tickled a circuit.

Did you try and replace the 280 with the previous card to see if the system will boot with another card?

yep...still nothing..i think my motherboard took a dump when i put the new video card in..it was working before i put it in..was about to try each ram stick but dinner arrived lol..so ill try that..but after tryin the 2 video cards, and i even went out and bought a 1000w power supply(Corsair hx1000 or something) and still nothing...so after $750 in 2 days im able to say its not the new parts :) which is good...kind of...just wish i had more money lol

UPDATE: After much trying and trying..I got it to boot once..and it posted saying there was a "cmos checksum error -defaults loaded"..then it said underneath"cmos battery failed"..that was the last time it booted..i replaced the battery..still not working...now it just turns on...turns off..then turns on..repeatedly...even on the old video card(8800gtx)..no noise no beep...so the motherboard either went belly up or worst case( which really isnt too bad..money wise) the cpu went down which i dont think..but dont know either..what's odd is..when i turn on the pc the fans and everything that spins is audible when first booting...but it takes at leas t3-5 seconds for anything to be audible after pressing the button to boot up..fans were spinning..just not fast at all for the first 5 seconds..I hate this motherboard anyway it was a backup..just wish i had the other one fixed by now so I wouldn't be out of a rig now

I guess you had nothing too important to backup. Good luck with the new system setup :)
