NO benchmarks, just me playing Doom 3.
Asus a8n-sli deluxe: Two Evga 7800gtx cards-AMD FX-55[stock speed]
2 gigs Crucial Memory:Sony GDM-520 @ 85 refresh rate. Game @ 1600x 1200 all eye candy on FULL. AA at 8 or 16 and I can notice choppy game play. 4 or less, no problem. With the older 6800gt, I couldn't use any AA or I would have choppy game play. Doom 3 seems to put these cards to the test.
Put about 18 total hours of game play at different settings to find out what works best for me and my current set up.
Overall impressions: I like the new cards a lot, just not sure yet if the cost of them justifies the gained performance.

In future games and engines (F.E.A.R. & Unreal 3 specifically), you will definitely be happy of your purchase.

Well, the 7800GTX has 256MB memory. Even in SLi, that means 256MB. NOT 512MB. The textures etc are mirrored. id has repeatedly stated that Ultra quality requires 500MB+ of video memory.

Dont worry ATI is working on X900. The 7800 is just a 6800 chip in disguise.
ATI crossfire soon boys.

Mighty fine disguise, what without any increase in power consumption, and proper support for gaming at 2048x1536. ;)
I don't think that ATI will be able to regain the dominance it had with the 9x00 line anytime soon.

I still like the AA and AF on the ATI cards better. I was just at my friends house and he has his settings turned up higher than mine and my ATI X800XL still looks better than his 6800 Ultra. So i am also waiting for ATI to respond.

How is the 7800 a 6800 in disguise?! It seems to me to be a completely different animal! And a much better animal at that.
The 6800Ultra has speeds of 1.1Ghz memory and 400 on the core while the 7800GTX runs just slightly higher at 1.2Ghz memory and 430mhz core yet performs MUCH better than the 6800 Ultra. The 7800 also has more pipelines (24 as opposed to only 16 on the 6800U) so that will also add to the performance difference. And despite all that, the 7800GTX actually uses less power than the 6800U!

Different board. Same kind of core. Its all based on limits of it. Think about it since when did nVidia make a top of the line card w/o Ultra? Reason is because its a repeat but they found out how to pull in more money with a little more.

I just unlocked the other 4 pipelines on my 6800NU so I think I'll be sticking with it for awhile before I run out and buy a 7800 and blow all the money I'm saving for my bronco's lift kit and tires

Most people figure it's so they have something good in reserve (full 32 pipeline card) for when ATI releases R520.

Probably using rivatuner, google "6800", "pipelines" and "softmod" for some good results.

I think you can flash the BIOS too and that may work (although potentially risky).

Flashing BIOS's is very easy. I just kill a floppy drive every time I do it somehow.

Yeah you use Rivatuner. Open it, click two things, hit apply, restart and you're done. Gained me an easy 40-50 FPS on CS:S
