My machine
Asus MB
5.0 AMD CPU - 64 bit ready and all
4 Gig OCZ Gaming RAM
160 and 320 SATA HDDs
17 inch CRT monitor
2 x SAMSUNG DVDRW
My problem being;
GRID stutters in Win 7 and XP
NFS Undercover stutters in Win 7 - Haven't installed this in XP, I am scared.
I have read that I need to download a program called Riva tuner. That I did. The folder@home program needs also to be downloaded. WHY?

I am very new to all of these things.
I have the latest drivers for my ghx card.
Downloaded Rivatuner and installed it.
Can anyone give/write step by step instructions that a newbie like me will understand to do all of this?
Thanking you all in advance.
Corrie Craukamp
PS - WINDOWS 7 ROCKS MY WORLD.

well what settings are you using?
uninstall Folding@home if you don't know what it is(
more info on F@H here) because what it does is stress your CPU or GPU(depending on which client is installed) (technically it uses 'idle' cpu cycles, but it stresses it whether you're idle or not, gaming performance usually crippled, and it'll crash if you use fullscreen mode+GPU folding at the same time)
GRiD has an issue with smoke particles, so no matter what card you have(high-end or non) you'll get choppy gameplay when do make a lot of smoke(ie, do donuts)
that and NFS undercover is an unoptimized piece of crap you shouldn't play anyway, GRiD is a GREAT game though!
and finally, the 9600GT isnt exactly a powerhouse of a videocard, so don't expect to play either game at high settings

Hi Skier
I don't have F@H on my machine. What I do have is Riva Tuner and D3Doverrider.
Settings for GPU is; 1024 x 768 , Vsync ON , Refresh rate 70 , Multisampling LEVEL 4 and Aspect ratio NORMAL
Are any of the above extras going to help or not? Please advise. How do I set them properly?
Thanks.
Corrie

I would turn all of your game settings to low aside from your resolution, see if that helps otherwise I would recommend making sure that no other programs are running when you're playing the games. To be honest I think your card is a little underpowered for those games. What processor are you using specifically? Clock speed might be an issue here. DL and run CPU-Z and that will tell you what to tell us

in GRiD set the multisampling to lvl 1 and turn vsync off because vsync is useless

and what type of monitor do you have? i assume CRT because most LCD's only operate at 60Hz, and if you DO have an LCD, set it to 60 see what it does, and again, when there are particles for smoke in GRiD, every video card lags, even the highest end ones(i know one person with Crossfire 4870's and it lags pretty bad for him too with smoke)

I agree completely. The 9600GT is barely nominal for most gaming. If you were running an 8800GT (G92) or higher, you would see a marked improvement.

Thanks guys, I will do exactly that and let you know how it behaved. I do have a CRT, saving for an LCD.

Just notice he mentioned his game resolution is only 1024x768, that card should be more than enough for this resolution at high settings even, just take off the smoke...
