nvidia GT 310 announced

Nvidia has launched a new card under its upcoming 300 series family moniker, but rebranding old hardware is the name of the game here (again).
After all the negative press surrounding it's rebranding of the 8800 series into the 9800 series into the GT250, you'd think they'd get the message, but apparently not. Still, this card is so low-end that i doubt anyone will blow a fuse over it.
Don't get too excited, though, as the first 300-series product is a low-end solution that's currently available to OEMs only. Dubbed the GeForce 310, the card isn't based on the upcoming Fermi architecture and is instead a basic GT200-series card with a GPU clocked at 589MHz and 16 stream processors clocked at 1,402MHz. Look familiar? It should, as it's little more than a rebranded GeForce 210. As far as we can tell, there's no physical change, despite the massive jump in model number.

This is why I don't buy Nvidia anymore, well this and a couple reasons.

Well, the bright side is that it uses 40nm technology. But yes, hooray for rebranding.

I don't have any problems or issues with Nvidia. Who here has been majorly harmed by rebranding?

I don't see the point. Some of the other re-brandings had a difference that but if this is true the only reason I see to rebrand this is two deceive people and maybe get some press, even if it's negative press.

the thing i don't get is why didnt make the bottom line card better? if they had any sense, they'd make the GT 240 the bottom line and go up from there, i mean 16 stream processors? really? my x850XT prolly has more power than that, and it's 5 generations old! the only reason i can see to just move the bottom line directly (unless they wanna sell that piece of crap in the >$20 range)is that the new process (fermi) doesnt perform well enough comparedly, so it seems like they are just gonna refresh every previous card, so there isnt that much difference between those generations(i cant even tell what generation is what, with 9xxx there are basically three braches with persistent updates, JUST MAKE A NEW FRICKIN SERIES! STOP MINOR UPDATES!)

Obviously what Nvidia is doing IS working. If its not broke, then why fix it, right?
People can complain and nitpick all they want, but in the end, you can't argue with Nvidia's SUCCESS and as long as they continue to enjoy that success, I don't expect to see any radical changes.
So once again, who here has been majorly harmed by Nvidia rebranding?

people that don't know they are getting a crap card even though they bought a new generation. not everyone knows specifications as well as we do.
the DID make new cards last generation with the GTX 200 line, the 9k line was ABSOLUTELY nothing new not really even core refreshes,
I fear the "Fermi" will be just for the super highend, and they'll simply refresh the GTX 200's to the GT 300 naming scheme for enthusiasts/gamers/common end users, so normal people won't actually get any new cards

If nvidia didn't sell all their old cards, there would be a monetary loss to them for producing but not selling. I know its trickery but come on that's why you have sites like LR to let people know what they're buying. It isn't evil or false advertising from where I sit. If they didn't sell their backlog of cores then they wouldn't likely be able to keep producing newer, better cards.
Bottom line: be thankful for the review sites setting consumers straight on products so that YOU don't feel duped

Ok so I was car shopping yesterday with my friend. We immediately saw how shady someone can be. One of the ways they did it is by showing us the numbers we thought we wanted to see, like low intrest rate or low monthly payments first. So if a website like dell had a desktop with the option of a 220 or 310 someone who is not computer savy is more likely to buy a 310 video card. I just asked my wife this question and surprise she picked the 310.
Why would they re-brand a card that JUST came out. Maybe if they moved with the whole line up to the 3XX series and had this left over. Even then it's shady business.
