What is the recommended minimum cpu to get? Would a athlon 64 3000 perform well with a 7800gt? Or should I get a 3500? I really am at a loss about this entire bottlenecking thing can someone enlighten me?

a 3000 would do just fine, with just 1 7800 your not going to notice anything, its when you go sli that you notice, because the gfx cards spend more time waiting for the cpu to catch up. The best thing to do would be to get one and then overclock it to ensure that it does not bottelneck your gpu.

Here's another bottlenecking question:
I just read that AGP 8x has a bandwidth of under 3 Gb per second, so I'm wondering what the point is of buying a card that has a significantly higher throughput than that.

The real reason for buying a PCI-Express card right now is that if your anything like some of us we only buy a new video card every 2 years or so. In two years AGP will most likly not be aroun.

Yeah I bought a xfx 7800gt for $351 with free shipping and a venice 3000. Havent been able to test it yet though cuz the card hasnt arrived. It sucks so much to have everything cept the vid card...........................
