I Have a plain 6800 unlocked to 16/6. Even running at stock frequencies (325/700) it ran pretty hot. I had been running it for a year around 375/790, and it would run in the high 70's and 80+ celcius range.

Friend had a Arctic Cooling NV Silencer 5 that didn't seem to seat properly on his 6800 GT (he thinks his memory pokes out too much), so he gave it to me and my results are great.

Running stable at 400/820. idle temp is 44c. 9 hours of Q4 and I never saw it go over 60, averaged out 50-55c (just watched rivatuner OSD). Hours of everquest seems to be about the same temp range.

Nice Results! I had a NV Silencer 6 rev.2 on my 6600GT and it did a great job. They really are prettymuch silent, and they cool great. What more could you ask for?!

At their stock speeds, the fans are too intrusive (i.e. their noise signature). I volt-modded the fan and now it's silent. However it did reveal a design fault. Most system cases operate with an exhaust fan & PSU fan expelling air out of the case. The combined effect creates negative pressure in the case, and it's this negative pressure which draws air into the case from wherever it can (typically from the front of the case). However with one of these artic coolers, you'll find that air will try to come into the case via the cooler's exhaust vent. I found this out in one of my silent rigs which has 120mm fans on the exhaust vent and PSU, and even though these spin really slowly (less than 1000rpm) the GPU cooling fan was not powerful enough to combat the air coming into the system.

I managed to solve this problem by removing a couple of PCI blanking plates (I then created an air duct for the GPU cooler). So although I like the principal employed by these coolers, there are some practical considerations that should be heeded.

I had a Vf700Cu for my 6600gt though it warmed maybe just 5 C
