I need the best video card I can find that only needs one PCI-E connector off the PSU. All ideas appreciated.

most will come with adapters to go from 1 pci-e to 2- 4 pin molex - if that matters. I was thinking maybe you only had the 1 6-pin or 8-pin cable.

so if the card can run with one why do they even make them with two? The PSU my brother has only has one PCI-E 6 pin plug so I need a card that it can push.

the higher ends cards require a bit more power. we only get 75watts per 6 pin PCI-E cable, and 150Watts from the 8 pin PCI-E ones, then you get another 75 watts from the PCI-E vid port. it may seem like a lot of wattage available but the higher end video cards require 300+ watts. what is the wattage rating of the PSU? and make of the PSU?

IS there a way I can tell the power plug requirements? I looked at the specs of several and it doesnt seem to say.

it has a dual 12volt rail system HERE. hmm, if you need an video card right this second, the 550 be a good choice. If you can wait till nvidia comes out with a 650 that be a better option. using a 500 watt PSU is whats limiting your options.

I am upgrading my brothers system for him and that is his PSU. He has a limited budget so I was hoping to get him gaming again without needing a new PSU.

either get the 550, or see what nvidia has coming up next.
