My friend just replaced his ageing 9800 Pro with a Leadtek 7600GT AGP. The card is a huge step up, obviously, but we want to get more out of it. The core is now running at 590MHz without issue, and memory is at 1560MHz effective. The card tops out at 75C-ish under full load. His computer is full of dust, and the front intakes are completely useless. A hand placed nearby feels NO air going in. The system is an XPS Gen 2. It will be cleaned soon.

My question is this: Would the temp reductions from an aftermarket cooler assist in the OC? Or do you think we have hit the card's limit?

It looks like the card is near its max, but the cooler temps will help anyway. Personally, I'd want to get a quieter aftermarket fan on it regardless!

75c is way too hot IMO. You will want to bring those temps to about 40c before trying to push it. Does the Video Card have its own fan? If not then i would suggest getting a fan that you can mount above the GPU and possibly ramsinks if you deem it necessary. Plus the dust needs cleaned. A fan in the front or back would be nice.

GFX gpus can take ~100C

change cooling if you want lower noise, or if you MUST overclock more...

Are you sure your on the celsius scale? 100*C is 212*F which is boiling temperature for water. If you did run a GPU at 100C, the screen would probably be one big artifact. An OK temp is 60C and an acceptible temp is 40C IMO.

the x1900xtx runs @ ~90C under load!!
the 7600 can also take ~100C max. Overclocking changes things though.
