Im about to buy a new computer, mainly for the purpose of playing Vanguard: Saga of Heroes, and i know everything i want to put into it, except i cant make up my mind on the graphics card.

so far i have:
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E6600 (2x 2.4GHz/4MB L2 Cache/1066FSB)
Asus P5N32-SLI SE Deluxe nForce4 SLI x 16 Chipset
2gb Corsair XMS2 Xtreme w/Heat Spreader

so with a 19" monitor do you think i would be able to run the game on higher settings w/ faster framerate with the GX2, or 2x 7950GT in SLI?

I'd go for the GX2...it won't perform as well as the 2 7950GT's (close if you OC it) but it will produce a lot less heat, and draw a lot less power AND it will save you some cash.

This is really a toss up as they are pretty much the same thing. They use the same core and most companies use the same memory. I haven't seen a 7950GX2 that couldn't clock to the same speeds as the 7950 GT. The GX2 is much cheaper though.

With that said.....I would strongly urge you to wait a week. I am the video card editor after all. ;)

Brian's talking about the upcoming GeForce 'G80' launch that is taking place later this month according to rumors. It's an impressive core to say the least and if you can wait I would.

To Quote The Inq.

On the 8800GTX
The board's recommended price has changed couple of times and stands at 599 or dollars/euros, or 399 pounds. However, due to expected massive shortage, expect these prices to hit stratospheric levels.
On the 8800GTS
Recommended price is 399 dollars/euros, but who are we kidding? Expect at least 100 dollars/euros higher price.
So no prices are 100% set in gold, but sounds like $599 and $499 from what they think.

Check out the other combos. I'd almost do GT SLi. I guess it depends upon your desired resolution also. Then again if you've got a normal 19 LCD your probabal res. limit is 12x1024 and budget, otherwise if you've got some to blow, would rest upon a GX2. Then again, you could prob. buy a nextgen 8800 for the same as the GX2. What a cunundrum(?)

I'd take the single card, if only because then you have some extra room in your case and besides, it's easier (IMO) to sell one card you are done with than two...

I think the 7950GX2 is an over-rated card. The only program it seems to do well is 3DMark but in real games it is pretty sad. A 7900GTX is faster.

The best bang for your buck is definately a 8800GTS though.

The 7950GX2 is only worth anything in Quad SLI with a 30" monitor. Otherwise, a single 7900GTX blows the doors off it. And don't think you'll see triple digit frames with a 24" monitor on Quad. At lower resolutions (read: below 2560x1600) Quad generally can't keep up with 7900GTX SLI from what I understand.
