Geforce 8950 GX2
The Geforce 8950 GX2 is a dual-chip card based on a new 80 nanometre G80 chip, probably codenamed something else. Both GX2 GPUs are clocked at 550MHz and the difference is GDDR4. The card comes with 2x512MB of 256-bit GDDR4 memory clocked at 2000MHz. The card has 96 Shaders, per chip. It will be priced at $600.
Geforce 8900 GTX
The second in Nvidia's spring line-up is the Geforce 8900 GTX clocked at 700MHz GPU and 2200MHz memory. The chip still has a 384-bit memory interface and comes with 768MB of memory. The card uses a new 80 nanometre chip and has 128 Shaders. Compared to the Radeon X2800XTX it will end up shorter on clock and memory interface. The Geforce 8900 GTX is priced at $550.
Geforce 8900 GTS
The Geforce 8900 GTS is a new card clocked at 600MHz GPU with 2000MHz GDDR4 memory. It supports the 320-bit memory controller and comes with 640Mb of memory. This card should cost $500 and it is using the 80 nanometre chip. This card will still have 128 Shader units.
The current king of the crop, the 8800 GTX will drop in price to $450, while the Geforce 8800 GTS loaded with 640MB of memory stays up in the $400 price range.
Nvidia has two more 80 nanometre cards. The Geforce 8900GT with 600MHz core and with a 256-bit memory interface comes with 512MB of 1800MHz GDDR3 memory. It has 96 Shaders and is built on a 80 nanometre process and will cost $400.
I don't know about you guys, but if I bought an 8800 GTX I'd be pissed... Not only are no DX10 drivers available, but no games are out yet and current 8800GTX owners never even got to use their cards to the fullest before the next generation cards came out!

8950GX2 will have to compete with ati's top of the line card.

man, nvidia is on the roll, amd really need to try something drastic in both the gpu and cpu market.

I feel quite bad for AMD as well.
AMD's CPU division is getting pounded by Intel, and shows no sign of being able to mount any sort of counter Intel. Intel has the overclocking community with their overclockable Core's, the server market is taking a hit with quad core's, and Intel has 45 nm's coming out either 2h of 2007, or 1h 2008
AMD's ATI division is also getting pounded, though maybe not as bad. SLI 2.0 however might be a problem for ATI, if it is able to support 2 different cards, and the next gen ATI card is atleast as good as a basic 8800 GTX, then they could have some serious losses.

nvidia may be on a roll with hardware but they are falling way short on drivers.
there has not been a xp driver release in months. all they are working on is vista.

What market niche does everyone think the 8950 is aimed at?
It has fewer shaders than the 8900gtx.
SLI on one card saves space but at this price point I would imagine that a buyer can easily afford a SLI motherboard. I guess one could SLI two 8950's for quad processing but what is the application?
Could this be useful for the scientific community using these for computation with the new C libraries Nvidia is releasing?

Oh I was so thinking that. But those that don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it... As I recall nVidia did this exactly with the 7800/7900 series...

i don't know about anyone else but i'm sure glad this new card is coming out, i was planning on dishing out the money for the 8800 gtx but i was kicking myself as i was looking at my budget. now all i have to do is wait for the prices to come down while i build my computer, which is coming along quite nicely.

8950GX2 will be much much pricey.I wonder if anyone will pay for such high premium cards.They must be very rich.

damn i bought a 8800gtx..oh well...the new ones cant be all that much better..im sure they will be a lil bit ..but not enough for me to buy another one......yet:P
