7600GT vs 8500GT

Post by xxiaolung »

I want to buy new graphic card with budget about $100-$130, which is the best? Right now i confuse in picking 7600GT or the new (support DX10) 8500GT, from that i read in review 7600GT still better than 8500GT, but 8500GT support DX10. What should I choose?

depends on if you want to play games now or what... If you play mostly DX9 games then get a GeForce 7 series... If you want DX10 stuff you might want to wait till the HD 2600 series comes out from ATI before you buy a mainstream/low end DX 10 card.

Are you hinting that ATI's low to mid range R600 parts outperform NV's Nate? :)

I just got an XFX 7600 GT and it is awesome, $135 on newegg with a 20 dollar rebate (which I didnt fill out... I have bad luck with rebates).

It is clocked at 650 mhtz, and the memory clock is 1600 mhtz (straight out of the box).

runs stalker pretty well, and I think it is my processer that is causing the bottleneck now instead of the video card.

I would go for the 8600 though, it did a little bit better than the 7600 in the VS review, so you might as well go with that for the DX10 (unless you dont plan to upgrade to vista)

After running some benchmarks I found the 7600GT to run much faster then the 8500GT. If I had to pick between these two for gaming reasons, I would go with the 7600GT. I recommend you look into the 8600GT as this will outperfom the 7600GT, is DirectX 10 compatible and will not break your wallet.

If you still haven't bough yourself a new card ,i would suggest a 7600 also. It is more powerful , you will be able to play some dx9 games fairly good.
8500 is weaker ,and when dx10 games will come - it will be way too weak. So better now 7600 and a year of so after some better dx10 card.
Definately not 8500...

I was leaned in the same direction. Trying to decide on a PC setup from newegg. ABs with 7600gt or one with 8500gt. I went with a much cheaper 7600gt PC even though the 8500gt based one seemed the better deal, with free monitor, twice the RAM, etc.

Here's a great review of the 8500gt that compares it with machine cards....

Amazing how slow that card is. It would pay to get a dx10 compliant card later with more games are out that support it.

As he stated the 8600GT is your best bet. I have 4 people at my office with them and they run flawlessly.

I wouldn't gte either of them, both are crippled with a 128 bit Memory Bus. The 7600GT is fine for fairly recent games, but it will struggle with newer ones. The 8500GT has DX10 but it will be far too weak to take advantage of it anyway, and for DX9, well the 7600GT would beat it no bother.

Either get at least an 8600GTS for Dx10 (i would actually recommend an 8800GTS 320 really). Or, for Dx9 well, at least a 7900GS would be your best bet for NVIDIA because you can actually get one cheaper than some 7600GT (Case in point), but a 7950GT would be best of all from NVIDIA. That said the best value card you can get for Dx9 in my opinion, is the X1950XT, you can get one of these for around the same price as an X1950Pro which is definitely the best value Dx9 card (again, in my opinion).
