Pentium M 1.6GHz -- Specific sSpec Id. No. (SL6F7 or SL6FA)

Post by PPugh »

Hello,

I need a little assistance with the specific identification of my CPU. I have an Intel Centrino (HP nx7000) laptop with a Pentium M 1.6GHz processor.

Unfortunately, I can't seem to identify the EXACT Intel sSpec number or Package for it. I have used CPU-Z and Intel's Processor Id Utility, and I still seem to be left with two choices -- being SL6F7 or SL6FA.

According to the Intel Process Spec Finder details, the specification for the two sSpec codes is ...

sSpec# CPU Speed Bus Speed Mfg. Tech Stepping Cache Size Package Type
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SL6FA 1.60 GHz 400 MHz 0.13 micron B1 1 MB 478 pin PPGA FC-PGA2
SL6F7 1.60 GHz 400 MHz 0.13 micron B1 1 MB 479 pin H-PBGA FC-BGA2

As can be seen, one is listed as a 478 pin, whilst the other is a 479 pin.

When looking at the CPU-Z output, it identifies the pckage as "mPGA-479M", whilst Intel identifies it as "FCPGA/FCBGA". Unfortunately, the Intel Process Spec Finder seems to identify a "mPGA" package as 478 pin, not 479 as CPU-Z implies. Just to make matters worse, the Intel Processor Identification Utility seems to imply that the process is both a 478 pin and a 479 pin based on it's package identification. If any one knows how I can identify the exact package and sSpec, I would be very greatful.

My core objective is to upgrade my laptop to a Dothan 2.0 or 2.1 GHz Pentium M, but before I try to buy one, I need to be sure I have the correct specification.

Any assistance greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Thanks for the response.

CPU-Z is the latest version, downloaded last week, as is the Intel Processor Identification Utility.

Yes, the current processor is a Banias. I am seeking to upgrade to a Dothan 2.0GHz or 2.1GHz, but want to be sure that I have the correct specification.

as far as I could tell from reading all the info from Intel and Hp was that it is 479 and not 478, but its hard to tell I got so much conflicting info. This may be a stupid response, but why not open the laptop and check it out.

SL6F6 or SL6F9 ?

Post by vsmuthu »

I have a similar problem identifying my processor whether it is a 478 or 479 pin CPU-Z and PC Wizard doesn not give me the sSpec Id.
Did you sort your problem ? if so could you please let me know what you did,

I am looking to upgrade my processor to
Pentium M - 735, 1.70Ghz/2M/400 - SL7EP based on .90nm
I don't know whether my i855PM chipset and my Compal 0860 motherboard will accept it any help is really appreciated. My laptop model is HP Compaq - NX7000 with 1.5 Ghz Pentium M processor.
