I'm having some strange issues with a Dell Inspiron 1150. It has a Celeron 2.4 Ghz processor, but it's running very, very slow. I'm an advanced user, and have done plenty of repairs, rebuilds, etc. and know all about the heat issues with this design. This one is different, though. No viruses, spyware, etc. Windows has issues, but I don't think it would cause something to this extent. Bios says the thing is running at 2.4 Ghz. I found something odd when I compared it to the Inspiron 5150 beside it. Under Control Panel in System, the 5150 says it's an Intel P4 2.8 Ghz, and right under it says 2.79 Ghz. No surprises there. Jump over to the 1150 and System says Intel Celeron 2.4 Ghz, but under it says 287 Mhz.
I also put the 1150's hard drive into the 5150 (similar architecture) and it booted a bit faster, but still worked slow, even after I loaded drivers. I knew it would run slow because of the problems with this install of Windows.
What do you guys think that means? Burned out processor? Bad motherboard (capacitor plague strikes again)? Software gone really bad? It runs the same whether it's plugged in or on battery.
Oh, and I'm new here. Hi.

Try running CPUZ to check the freq.

Now that's a cool program. I like it a lot.
It says the Celeron is running at right where it should be, between 2393 Mhz and 2411 Mhz.
Could Windows be causing this? If it's a REALLY bad install, could it make everything crawl? If so, I've never had this bad of an install. Sometimes, I see network, power and sound icons in the tray, sometimes I don't. Sometimes things work, sometimes they don't. Depends on how many times you reboot.
