slow boot after HD swap??

Post by fryguy »

Hi all

I'm having a curious problem with my notebook.
I just swapped out a 40G for a 120G hard drive. I used acronis true image 10 to clone the old to the new (the partitions were cloned proportionally).
the problem is that the computer now takes twice as long to boot and shut down (~45 seconds as opposed to ~20 seconds).

i've removed a bunch of things from services and startup, still no change. is the slower boot/SD simply due to the bigger drive?

old drive = travelstar, 40G 5400 rpm
new drive = WD scorpio, 5400 rpm, 120G
notebook is dell 700m, 2 g RAM, 2GHz single core centrino, XP pro.

thanks
m

I can only think that windows somehow doesn't like being on the new drive with the old settings.

If its possible, you should try completely reinstalling windows on the new drive.
