Looking for 15.4" Gaming laptop

Hi all, I'm looking for a 15.4" gaming laptop. My budget is up to $3500USD (actually essentially unlimited budget but feel $3500 should be ample to buy the best 15.4). I want to buy within the next 3 months and can buy at any time within this period.
Alienware are currently looking like the best, and even though I can afford it the price is not optimal and they are overpriced, even for the specs.
I love so many things about Asus, but currently their best 15.4" G1sn only carries a 9500GS. I need this laptop to last me for at least 2 years, which a 9500GS ain't gonna do.
Before I bite the bullet and buy an Alienware I'm looking for some recommendations for any other 15.4" notebooks I may have overlooked or which may be on the horizon.
My requirements are that it MUST be 15.4" (World traveler. Can definitely NOT get anything bigger at all and don't want anything smaller. Don't post anything above or below 15.4" please). A robust high quality chassis is essential as laptop will be going into deserts, high altitudes and extreme environments (will obviously protect laptop as much as possible. Magnesium alloy chassis is an acceptable level of quality. MILSPEC not necessary )
Weight is not as much of an issue as size. Just looking for the sweetest graphics available for 15.4, excellent build quality and all the usual features for a +3k notebook (7200RPM HDD or solid state, 4Gb ram, 1440*900 screen [720HD], MXMIII slot for graphics upgradeability ).
Thanks for your help

It's never really a good idea to buy from Alienware, they are just overpriced resellers of brands such as clevo and compal. If you can bare to wait till August, Clevo is releasing the M860TU. The Sager NP8660 is based on the M860TU (it basically IS the M860TU) if you want to check it out.

You could put together one totally badass laptop for about $2700 that'll kill most any Alienware.
Specs:
- Display: 15.4" WUXGA LCD with Matte Finish Surface (1920X1200)
- Processor: 45nm Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T9600 / 6MB L2 Cache, 2.80GHz, 1066MHz FSB
- Video & Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce 9800M GT Graphics with 512MB DDR3 Video Memory
- Operating System: Genuine MS Windows® VISTA ULTIMATE 32/64-Bit Edition
- Memory: 4GB Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1066MHz - 2 X 2048MB
- Primary Hard Disk Drive: 200GB 7200rpm SATA 300 Hard Drive
- Optical Drive: 8X DVD±R/RW/4X +DL Super-Multi Drive & Software
- Wireless Network Card: Intel Wi-Fi Link 5300AGN - 802.11A/B/G/N Wireless LAN Module
- Bluetooth: Internal Bluetooth V2.0 + EDR Module
- Primary Battery: Smart Li-ION Battery Pack
- Integrated Security Device: Fingerprint Reader
Is being released August 8, 2008

That IS badass :P
Thanks for the great advice. The laptop you've outlined sounds very good. The graphics are nice for now, and I could upgrade the card in a year.
My only concern is the screen res. At 1680*1050, it's going to tax the card a bit more than a native 1440*900 system.
But yeah apart from that, it's a great recommendation. Cheers

actuallly, the res is 1920x1200, my friend has a laptop with that resolution, you can play at 1440x900 and it looks just like a 15.4 inch screen who's native resolution is 1440x900. his is an alienware and it has sli
