My HP TX2500z

Well, my new laptop came in earlier today and boy is she a beaut. Unfortunately, I won't have any pics of her tonight...gotta have something to keep you all interested, right? :roll:

Anyway, it's really dark and I'm hoping to borrow a camera for some photo ops tomorrow but for now I can give you all some juicy details.

First up we have a screenie of the default desktop with all the bloatware HP has installed. I had also been playing around with the writing recognition and even without training it, it can recognize my sloppy ass handwriting...

Well that's about it for pictures tonight, sorry...I can give you some of my likes/dislikes in a lovely bullet-style list though:
Likes
  • Full Size Keyboard
  • Golf ball style tackpad is...interesting
  • Fingerprint reader works reasonably well
  • Fairly quiet
  • Very sharp screen IMO
  • Looks pretty :finga:
Dislikes
  • Gets a bit warm in the upper right corner
  • Right-click button on the pen is impossible to find in the dark (needs to be more tactile)
  • Needs a fresh install to kill all the bloatware
  • That's really about it...great little notebook thus far

Hopefully I'll be able to get some proper action shots up over the weekend but tonight I'll be trying my hand at installing Ubuntu 8.04.1 on it. Wish me luck!

Ubuntu got enough support with touch screens then?

What sort of temperature is the CPU running at? The CPUz dump said 90oC, but I don't want to believe that. :rolleyes:

After using for about a week it seems to idle around 60c and stay at around 70c at full load so it does get a bit warm but not unusably so. The screen is quite reflective as you can see above so it's not the easiest to use outside but I never go outside anyway :P Other than that and a few problem specific to Ubuntu I really like this little laptop.

Yeah toothpaste is great for polishing scratched up CDs and lets just say I don't trust the other people that use my bathroom (my family) 8-[
