I don't know if this is a typo or a mistake, but PC Connection has the ASUS Z71V for $539.59 + shipping on their site. This is the same notebook we built this month in our DIY Sonoma article titled How To Build A Sonoma Notebook. Just a few weeks ago we paid $724 for the chassis, so this is a $185 price drop!

The pricing link to the PC Connection is located here
The Z71 series is the first notebook available with the advanced features of Intel‘s latest mobile platform codenamed Sonoma. The 15.4” widescreen, outstanding performance, and powerful graphics make the Z71 series the most flexible, high performance solution for a wide range of users. The Z71V allows continuous operation over 5 hours. Power4 Gear+, a battery-saving feature found exclusively on ASUS notebooks, adjusts CPU speed, LCD brightness and Windows power schemes according to system loading. It offers eight modes for gaming, watching DVD, listening to music and word processing. This barebone notebook supports Pentium M processors with 2MB cache at speeds of 1.67-2.5GHz, 400 and 500MHz FSB or Celeron M processors with 512KB or 1MB L2 cache at speeds of 1.3-1.7GHz.
I'm not sure if it is an error or a price drop, but it just happened. The notebook is out of stock and on order, but at this price it is worth the 2-10 day wait!

Yeah, that's a great big bummer! :(

I had raced off to place an order, hoping to be the one to write your article. So, after seeing your 2nd post, I called their customer service and got the order cancelled. They were only willing to come down $10 or so on their actual price for the Z71V due to the misleading info on the website. Oh well, I guess I'll have to order it somewhere else.

Many thanks for letting us know, Apop!

I can't believe they offered a whole $10 off the price.. what a joke. GOes to show customer satisfaction is long gone most places.
