Antec NeoHE PSU's

Anyone have use of these? I really like my Neopower 480W but was thinking of moving to the 550 NeoHE. I'm adding a ATI TV Wonder Elite and I'm wondering how close I am to pushing the limit of the 48o. The only bad thing I heard is that they may raise some temp cases because of the 80mm fan and airflow design.

What are your system specs? how may fans etc. aswell!

Remember most high-end pc's use only about 300W of power (that's using SLI!) - you have to allow for more as each voltage needs to be stable ==> in theory you could use a 380W PSU with a P4 OC's to 4GHz and SLI 6800U if you wanted.... but you would have spikes on your voltages and the PSU would be running HOT!

I'd say your Neopower would be fine, without even knowing your specs.... I have that PSU...It can run my X2 4400+ @ 2.65 with 2x prime95 running and 3DMark looping all day and not a peep from it

Sooo...?

Cool. i haven't had time to figure out all of the power requirements (I know there is a list somewhere of estimated loads). I'm runing the following:

3500+ winny OC'd to 2.5mhz @ 1.5v
Corsair 3200XL Pro 2x512MB DDR400 OC'd to DDR500 @ 2.6v
EVGA 7800 GT PI-E (Oc'd to 470mhz from factory)
x2 Maxtor Diamond Max 10 200GB HDD
NC ND-3500A DVD/CD
Floppy
x3 120 MM fans (one for HSF) - 2 with CCT lighting
x2 CCT UV light tubes (Mad Dog)
Soon to add ATI TV Wonder elite PCI
SB Audigy Z2S Platinum PCI
Of course, mouse & KB
2 LCD monitors (1 20" wide and 1 17") - not sure if these really draw much power
2 external HDD - 1 200GB & 1 320GB

I think that's it.

I guess I should have put this in the Cases, cooling and PSU forum. Sorry, if someone wants to move it go ahead.

I don't know about that statement....
A 3.4Ghz 90nm Prescott can consume up to 200w just by its self!

Then you have to add in at least another 200 watts of power consumption for a high end video card like the 7800GT or GTX:

Just between the processor and video card you have like 400 watts of power consumption, then add in your other components and peripherals like HDD's, RAM, optical drives, case fans, lighting, TV tuners, USB devices....
Power shouldn't be taken lightly, especially with all these high end components, but I would say your NeoPower 480 should probably be enough. But I guess there's only one way to find out!

So far it seems to be shouldering the load but you know how it is when you OC, if things start flaking out, it's hard to pinpoint the problem and I don't power fluxuations thrown in the mix to make it worse.

I'm in work @ the 'mo.... but I have read a few reviews where they used a P4 @ ~4GHz, RAID 0, SLI GTX and still the power drain from the electricity sockett was around 280W!!! - I "think" Anandtech done one - I haven't time to check here (barely enough free time to post this!)...

Wattage is not what a PSU is all about! How it "switches" IS.... can it supply enough amperage is the key!
not gonna argue this.... just agree to disagree (infact i have a 600W beast, but could prob get away with my neopower)

Vstrom -->> Which version of neopower do you have?
I have the origional grey one... there was a newer model too which is supposed to be even better!

Use this little program "Overclockulator" => it will allow you to calculate how much your power your system will need - You'll need to google search for it (haven't time to find it for you sorry!)

I'm not sure which version, prolly the older one 'cos it's about 3 years old and it was a pretty new product then. I'll check out that app. Thanks.

this is the newer version of the Neopower! = not grey like the origional version!

:edit: this is not a Antec product!!! Just a mod version by Performance-PCs, sorry!

in anycase - your PSU will run your setup fine

It appears so since in the article you linked to the were running more juice than I am and had 0 probs. Good to know.

Yeah, it will depend a lot on the quality of the PSU too, like you are talking about kenc. A good quality 380w PSU will outperform an off brand 550w PSU.

Simply put --> the PSU is your PC's Heart! - Each molex lead is a vein or atery.. -> If you have a bad Heart....All hell breaks loose....and very hard to diagnose the prob unless your thinking of heart probs!

Look after your heart and it will look after you ;)

(terrible analogy Sorry!)

LOL, that's not too bad of an analogy actually! Think of voltage, ams, and watts as the lifeblood of your computer...

sounds cheesy thats all...

This is where I read it! --> I was wrong about SLI... but still!
Tom's again
Tom's Hardware wrote:All of the figures shown are the total power consumption of the entire system in watts. The first test gives us our baseline, which benchmarks a system without a graphics card. This provides a figure you can use to subtract out to get the actual figures.

AAHHH, crap, you're right. I guess I just didn't read close enough #-o
Sorry about that. It did seem pretty steep! Thanks for clearing that up bro!
