gigalan router with jumbo frames (9k)

I'd like to upgrade my current 10/100 LAN to gigalan but I'd like to add jumbo frames to the mix while I do it.

One solution that won't work I think, is to keep my 10/100 router and add a Gigalan switch w/ JFs but my understanding is that I would experience difficulties connecting from the switch to the router and the 'net in general since the router doesn't support jumbo frames. Can anyone comment?

I came across a review of an Asus router w/ built in switch that supports jumbo frames. Anyone have this hardware? Asus model RX3141.

http://www.tomsnetworking.com/Reviews-2 ... RX3141.php

The review was pretty down on the router feature wise so I almost wonder if waiting a while for others (like a netgear product) to emerge. Anyone have any thoughts on the topic?

rich people don't really hang out on forums. they have no need for OC-ing - they just get the best - If they even care - and then go to hawai  :ohsnap:

...it wasn't that long ago when I was a poor college student too.

I don't think they cost that much more than a standard 10/100 router does... that asus router for example is only 100 bucks. Gigalan NICs are under 20 bucks or are included on most boards.

it's not the router that is expensive but the connection :(

The connection? I'm talking about for intranet speeds. It is a gigalan switch as well.

never any need for a switch or router, except for dsl line

with jombo frames you are best to increase by a little @ a time, and make sure you have the same packet size set for each NIC....
I never enable jumbo frames as only using a crossover cable between 2 pc's...10/100 would be fast enough for me
