Hello,
I was looking to purchase a budget new rig and was highly attracted to the new Alienware R3 M11X that Dell was offering. I specifically want it to be able to play League of Legends, but I also need it to have a high battery life, lowish heat for my teaching job and writing (I also like the HDMI out). I wanted to see if anyone had any advice on comparable, but less expensive models than the Alienware as budget & use is more important to me than a simple brand name.
I'd also like to stay under $700.

Any help would be very appreciated
Thanks,
George

Re: Gaming Laptop
A little more than 700 but you get a normal CPU and not the ULV. If you're a student you get a free x box.

According to your budget based on your requirements will be typical so for that purpose do one thing purchase a laptop which is suitable for your budget and align your configuration separately

- A gaming laptop is not 13.3" but rather 17" and up!
- Gaming laptops have at least FullHD screens or 4K.
- Gaming laptops have at least 860M in them.
- Gaming laptops have at least 8GB of RAM but rather 16GB or 32GB! 4GB is barely enough for surfing the net!
- Gaming laptops usually have a double fan cooler to be able to manage the heat!
This acer is just a shitty little laptop, is nothing comparable to a gaming laptop. The best gaming laptops for less than Alienwares are from ASUS and MSI and if you want comparable performance but cheaper than you choose Lenovo.

Old version for less: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MMM ... o_pd_S_ttl
Lenovo: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00K6Z ... o_pC_S_ttl - refurbished and used you can get close to your budget but forget about buying a NEW GAMING laptop for less than $700!

Re: Gaming Laptop
Holy thread revival. I don't think you know what you're talking about. Did you not notice that post was from 2011! An yes a 13" can be a gaming laptop. My Acer 4820TG held its own.
- A gaming laptop is not 13.3" but rather 17" and up! Wrong Sager has 13.3 that is more than capable of gaming.
- Gaming laptops have at least FullHD screens or 4K. Wrong! Gaming laptops pushing a 4k resolution. Yea no laptop can do that now. It's easier to game at a low res.
- Gaming laptops have at least 860M in them. Wrong again.
- Gaming laptops have at least 8GB of RAM but rather 16GB or 32GB! 4GB is barely enough for surfing the net! Wrong! I have a Windows tablet with 2GB runing Windows 10 that browses the internet just fine. Hell I can even play some older games on it.
- Gaming laptops usually have a double fan cooler to be able to manage the heat! Hey you got one right.
Thanks for reminding why I don't bother with these forums anymore.

Re: Gaming Laptop
Wow, what a reply. I don't give a damn if you play on your tablet with tetris or super mario brothers but don't call it a gaming laptop please. A gaming laptop IS full HD nowadays and many are 4K! Of course FullHD wouldn't make sense on a tablet oryour phone but I'm talking about a GAMING laptop! It's a fact. It shows you don't read these forums or any other, since you are clueless what the standard is for a GAMING laptop! It should be able to play ALL new games at an acceptable framerate, for that you need a GTX860 and up and they are usualy 17" and up. I don't give a damn if you play on your phone - it will not make it a gaming laptop.
