New laptop for me

Post by FZ1 »

I decided I needed to get myself a new laptop PC for school and when I travel to watch movies etc. I have one for work but I can't load the software I need to on it and technically, I shouldn't be carting it with me when I travel on vacation. So I saw a great deal on a Dell and bought it. Here is what I am getting for just under a grand...

>Intel Core Duo processor T2300E (2MB/1.66GHz/667MHz)
>15.4 Inch UltraSharp TrueLife Wide-screen WSXGA+
>1GB, DDR2, 533MHz 2 Dimm
>128MB ATI MOBILITY RADEON X1300 HyperMemory
>60GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive
>XP Media Center Edition 2005
>8X DVD+/-RW Drive
>SoundBlaster Advanced Audio
>Intel PRO/Wireless 3945 802.11a/g Mini Card (54Mbps)
>Dell Wireless 350 Bluetooth Module
>Integrated 10/100 Network Card & Modem

Hopefully, I'll have it in a few weeks.

Nice buy.

Nice specs!
I got a Dell Laptop recently too.........The only thing I don't like is the screen res. I'm stuck @ 1024x768 :(
It's only got intergrated gfx.......but it does ll I need.......plus it was very cheap!

One thing, Dell's lappies are very stable!!!!
I've been running mine 24/7 with FAH @ 100% for ~1 month!
It's never had to reboot........thanks to Suse Linux!
(suse installs everything incl. wifi.....:))

Do me a favor, check your Device Manager tab and tell me, does it say Sigmatel Advanced HD Audio? I was reading the Dell forums and people say all you're getting for that extra $25 is some drivers...no different integrated audio..

Yup... I kinda figured it was Sigmatel. Dell jips you right there. Also, does yours have an express card slot and not a PCMCIA? I was thinking of writing a bitch e-mail to Dell about that because there is ZERO support out there for the Express Card Slot... I would assume they would have given a PCMCIA slot along with it, but noooo...

Dell was even selling the PCMCIA SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS with my laptop (E1705) even though it doesn't have a PCMCIA slot...

I'm impressed with this display though. I set the resolution to max and my god is it sharp! Games look MUCH nicer too!!
