We have a few more details on the upcoming Santa Rosa platform, which uses Intel's Merom Core 2 Duo processor, as well as a revised launch date.
Intel's upcoming Santa Rosa platform will incorporate a new socket design and is expected to launch later than originally expected.
DailyTech is reporting that the Santa Rosa platform for Intel's 64-bit Merom processor will use a new interface, called Socket P. This may be a necessary change to properly support the new features on Santa Rosa, but will also prevent users from using original Socket M Yonah or Merom processors with the new platform. Socket P Merom processors will be released for the new platform, but have the same architecture and overall features of the "original" Merom processors which will be released for the Napa platform in August (Rumor has is August 7th).
Oh well I guess all good things come to the end and the ability to use Dothan, Yonah, and Merom processors all on the same platform was great while it lasted. Let's only hope that the socket P platform is only as good to us!
