Well as you know the lastest Core 2 Duo processor for the mobile family has been introduced and I thought I'd try one out in my Dell M1710 gaming laptop. The system wwas able to post with the new processor installed.
It seems the Dell XPS M1710 notebook is Merom ready and no BIOS update is required at the present time.

Does he mean that they will be releasing one soon? i.e. its just a BIOS issue atm.

yes it's just a BIOS issue, but I can't believe that don't have one out for their highest end gaming notebook. They have the M90 ready and that is more for office users.

That sucks, you should be able to upgrade a computer without having to hack the BIOS

the part that gets me is where dell says they don't help with CPU upgrades AT ALL...

Well from a business strategy it makes sense, because dell doesnt sell upgrade parts (unless you have a part number and ring up spare parts!) so they want you to buy a whole new PC from them, which sucks really. But yeah, only a matter of time before someone hacks the BIOS

correction the notebook works fine.. I am using the A00 BIOS that came on the notebook and it posted and runs merom A-OK... When I was removing and installing the new processor one of the memory modules was not 100% in the socket and the system wouldn't post with either CPU... It's 100% fine now.
