In the market for a Laptop...

Post by JackDog »

I have been looking around for a mid-range laptop ~$1700. I will primarily use this for development and moderate gaming. I also like the idea of plugging it into and HDTV and running games/video a decent res. Portability and weight really aren't issues.

My requirements are:
  • 17" Display @ 1680x1050
  • At least 2GB of RAM
  • At least 80GB of space - 7200 rpm drive
  • NVidia video card (I run linux for development)
  • DVD-RW
  • Dual core - probably a T7200 for the 4mb cache
So far the HP dv9000t seems to be my best bet. I configured the above specs, with the GeForce 7600 at 512MB. I was just curious if anyone here had a good lead on a laptop fitting my requirements. I have component built 100s of desktop machines, but never a laptop. That might be a good way to go if I can find a notebook chassis cheap. I am also curious if the GeForce Go 7600 holds up to my 6800GT in my desktop. The 6800GT plays most games I care for.

Thanks!
