Valid Pentium 4 M 1.8 GHz Temp Range

Post by zerocool84 »

Hey all,
I have a laptop using a Pentium 4 M 1.8 GHz. One of the fans is dying and making an awful noise in class. I downloaded a program that lets me control the fans so I was able to turn the noisy fan off. Now I am concerned it might be getting too hot. The programs currently stays my CPU is at 54 C but it has gotten up to 70 C. Is this too hot to operate? Or am I good to go until I get the new fan in? Thanks.

That is bordering on dangerously high. You might experience some thermal throttling if the laptop motherboard supports it. I would keep an external fan blowing on the intake or sucking on the exhaust to keep the notebook cool while you get a replacement fan.

Get a program like "Notebook hardware control" and set the multiplier to lower than stock, also lower the voltages too. This will keep your temps down. You should be able to run ~1GHz and ~0.9v
