I built a machine to load, store, organize, transcode Video/Audio. I am still looking for a software package to suit my needs. Here is the machine I built:

Good to know that others are doing audio and video editing here too!

I mostly run with Cool Edit Pro, it's an older version of Adobe's new and enhanced Audition software. Adobe is going head-to-head with Apple's SoundTrack Pro. I manage an audio editing service for a non-profit organization that holds meetings and conferences a few times a month. No video is required since the tracks need small band width to download from the internet.

Have you looked at Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0 plus Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0 for audio & Video?

The Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 is way up there in price, but it does everything under the sun! $799

DivX offers some nice editing, but the formats are limited. http://www.divx.com/products/sw/browse.php?c=13

Avid Liquid-7 has some good features, but the price starts to climb a little. ~ $500

Pinnacle Studio-10 is ideal for the home video editing to DVD and the web. It has some nice features, but nothing like the more pricey softwares above. Still for about $130, it's very attractive for price and features.

The combo of Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0 plus Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0 is balanced enough for a serious audio and video editor to accomplish their goals. It's only $150

Sometimes these home softwares are well enough and don't require any fancy extra hardware to use. So the last two above here may be an option.

I would avoid Sony Vegas Production since that company is known to stick DRM in places you don't want!!!

I will throw the ULead products in the mix also. I never like Adobe Premiere, but it is probably the most powerful out there.

Thanks for the friendly welcome everyone.

I did try some of those mentioned software packages, thanks.

The adobe packages gave me trouble. The Pro would not install and the Elements version seemed "buggy". The program locked up and various other issues. I am running Vista which should not be an issue for Adobe.

I can't find a single program to meet my needs. However, Nero for most things does a good job but does not have a DVD ripper to extract the audio from DVD videos. I am trying ImToo for that.
