I think it's only proper that before I start begging for knowledge on high from the overclocking kings of this forum that I introduce myself!
my username is boring but It's easy to remember for me hah.
I came across this forum while poking around the internet seeking assistance on the assembly and over-clock of my first ground-up tower. The computer I will be putting together has these specs if your curious:
Asus P4P800-X mother board (yeah I'm bringing it back)
prescott 3.0E D0 HT pentium 4 (this too)
3 gigs of pc2-3200 memory (3x1g)
2 western digital 160 gb 3.0gb/s (im gonna RAID 0 these) S-ATA
6800 geforce AGP 8x video card
420 W PSA
This case - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6811156135
This heatsink w/ 2 60mm fans attached- http://www.pcalchemy.com/product_info.p ... cpu-cooler
Anyhow I will most likely be making a post on this forum when all the pieces arrive in the mail and calling upon your experience and knowledge. I appreciate any help in advance and I look forward to getting to know a few of you.
My first post!!

Welcome to the forums
Your username wouldn't happen to be your birthday by any chance would it?
I hope that cooler with the fans is going to be quieter than I imagine 60mm fans to be.
Good luck building your first PC ^_^

Welcome.
I only ask because most people are trying to remain current, while you are purposely staying in the past.
My only question is...WHY?(yeah I'm bringing it back)

Re: My first post!!
Haha well all my old stuff from my run down computer is still AGP/ddr1 so I wanted the most cost effective upgrade.
Well I thought I would give you guys an update on my system build that has taken the better part of 2 days.
After all the issues and problems I had which I won't mention unless asked or anyone cares, its a long one, I got it up and running.
I've got my memory stepping set to 3 4 4 8, which if I set it any other way than this my whole system just freezes a few minutes after startup or during heavy load.
-The proccessor has been overclocked from 3.0 to 3.6. (my CPU temp never gets above 47 C)
- my system will freeze shortly after entering windows if I don't set the AGP/PCI frequency to the middle range option, I have no Idea why.
- Also I will be defragmenting my hard drive and pushing all of my files toward the front of the drive to get ready for a shrink query max and shrink command.
After this I plan to make the biggest partition possible and use "dynamic disks" to set up a RAID 0 partition between the two and use this for all my gaming.
I would like to just make the entire disk RAID 0 and then install windows again but I can't seem to figure out how to do that without having XP installed.
- One last thing, my computer seems to be finding a "ghost" pci Modem. The only thing I've got in the PCI slots is a soundblaster Audigy card. After some research online others have had this problem but nobody can find a sufficient fix that doesn't invlove removing the sound card.
If anyone has any advice on setting up my RAID or whats up with my "ghost" modem I would appreciate some wisdom. I will be re-posting this with my system specs in the "general computer forum" for discussion.
Thanks fellas!

Re: My first post!!
Sounds like a very sensitive and somewhat picky system. That would drive me absolutely crazy! I give a system a little bit of room to be fussy if its top of the line, but if its obsolete, it gets kicked to the curb real fast.
The PCI modem has me puzzled. Is there an onboard modem that its incorrectly identifying? I seem to recall an old Dell of mine that did the same thing. I just sold it that way.

Re: My first post!!
Haha Nope, only thing in the PCI slots is a soundblaster card.
It really had me stumped...up until I formated both drives and re-installed on an 8gb partition, then used the rest of both drives for a 282 Gb Raid 0 array.
Im all sorted out now.
