Hi All - CPU upgrade

Folks,
I am a struggling quasi-literate computer user who usually gets into trouble by moving ahead of himself:). I am looking for some help with upgrading the CPU on my system and I am wondering about compatibility of variouos Intel Core 2 Duo cpus.
My system currently is a Philips MT1800 box with E6300 Core 2 DUo CPU (1066MHz FSB), 2GB of DDR2 (533MHz) RAM and an ECS 945P-M3 v3.0 mobo. I was wondering if I could intall a C2D E7300 which has the same LGA775 socket? The BIOS is supposedly up to date though the closest mobo reference I can find on the ECS website is a 945PL-M3.
Any ideas would be very helpful!

Welcome to the forums, this conversation has come up over at
Guru3D
it seems that board only supports 65nm Processors with a FSB of 800 or 1066MHz which leaves:
Celeron Dual-core E1200
Celeron Dual-core E1400
Pentium Dual-core E2160
Pentium Dual-core E2180
Pentium Dual-core E2200
Pentium Dual-core E2220
Core 2 Duo E4300
Core 2 Duo E4400
Core 2 Duo E4500
Core 2 Duo E4600
Core 2 Duo E4700
Core 2 Duo E6300
Core 2 Duo E6320
Core 2 Duo E6300
Core 2 Duo E6400
Core 2 Duo E6420
Core 2 Duo E6600
Core 2 Duo E6700
so no wolfdales(E7000/E8000 series) or other 45nm chips with your current board
edit: prompt response, eh? 12 minutes

Thanks for that - as a matter of curiosity where would I go to find out that information - other than asking the experts on a board such as this? And what is it that stops the mobo from taking the 45nm series?

A good place to start is the manufacturers website, specifically their page for your board (if there is one).
Welcome to the forums btw.

which in this case there isn't, so google tells all

you just have to know what you're looking for

What keeps the board from supporiting smaller nanometer sizes is the chipset. At the time the board was made the 45nm archetecture either didn't exist or wasn't mainstream.
As for finding what proc's the board supports the manual is a good place to start. If you do not have the manual the manufacturers website. If that doesn't work do as others suggested and Google search the motherboards model number.
