n00b question:
I got a Diamond 3870 x2. I thought i read (way back) that I could crossfire these GPU's together once the drivers came out. Well the drivers are out, but I don't get the Crossfire tab in CCC. If i add another single core 3870, I get the crossfire tab. But I only want a single X2 card in this rig.
Is there a way to xfire these 2 gpus together or am I missing something?
I was a little disappointed to discover that this card was only PCIe 1.1
Now I can't even Crossfire them.
Thanks
3870 x2
Re: 3870 x2
I am lost you want to crossfire but you also said that "only want a single X2 card in this rig." so are you talking about doing a 3 GPU with 2 cards?pcdowning wrote:n00b question:

Re: 3870 x2
The X2 is already crossfire enabled within itself. So both GPU's on the card are working as crossfire together.
What people were meaning when they were talking about enabling crossfire with the X2 was actacually putting 2 3870x2 cards together for 4GPU XfireX. Adding the additional 3870 like you tried also is XfireX, and couldn't have been done without the new drivers.
The card being PCIe 1.1 is of little significance, as it would only need the extra bandwidth of the PCIe 2.0 if it had to communicate a lot of Xfire information across the PCIe bus. As it is crossfire on one card, it doesn't need to so won't really impact it for the negative. Plus, if it were PCIe 2.0 it would have been a lot more expensive.

Re: 3870 x2
A Radeon HD 3870 X2 is already in CrossFire mode... add another one and you get CrossFireX which is four GPU's running together... PCIe 1.1 and PCIe 2.0 aren't a huge deal in the market today because the full PCIe 1.1 bus isn't being used.pcdowning wrote:n00b question:

Re: 3870 x2
thanks for your responses. I thought i must have misunderstood something...
One last question tho,
I'm kinda new to crossfire but when i do it on other machines, all other monitors shut off and only the "crossfire" monitor is active. If the 3870 x2 card is already in crossfire mode, how come both monitors are active? Can it be in crossfire mode with both monitors active? Doesn't seem right to me
Thanks again

Re: 3870 x2
If memory serves me correctly, as of CCC 8.2, (Or maybe it was 8.1), Crossfire mode allowed for a 2nd monitor to be enabled.
