Problem with 3870X2

Post by afentiko »

well to start i have the following system
motherboard:asus P5E3 Deluxe WiFi
GPU:3870X2
CPU:Intel Q6600
Ram:2Gb DDR3
........
Well, i have the following problem
when i open the Catalyst Control Center it open and then close in 1 sec and then it keeps on opening-closing by itself for some time. After having format i installed netframework 1.1 and then 2 but even then the problem still existed. What is the problem? How can i fix it? I also want to add that with my previous Nvidia 7600GT i was playing BF2142 with 40FPS and now only with 50.Its a pity i think.400 wasted euros

Have you tried to remove all the ATI software and then re-install it? Be sure to use driver cleaner after you remove it and then re-install it again. I have a couple of the 3870 X2's and have had no problems like this and since it's just the CCC it's likely just something fubar with your software.

Always install the chipset drivers before the video card. Sometimes this will lead to issues. Not sure what more to tell you. Could have a bad card, but since it's just CCC acting up it still sounds more like a software issue.

Afentiko,

Just fired up the ASUS P5E3 Deluxe WiFi Edition and had some issues with the Radeon HD 3870 X2. I use this board as the test platform for all CPU Testing and have never had a problem. Yesterday, I used it for the 3DMark Vantage benchmark and it posts 1 out of 10 times with the ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2 installed. I have a number of Radeon HD 3870 X2's and all had the issue. When I switched to a different card from ATI and NVIDIA the issue was gone (the board would post). A couple times the board would post and then lock up a few minutes later. Since it only happens with this one video card and specific motherboard I'm thinking it is a BIOS issue. I'm using the latest public BIOS - 1109 that was posted on 3-28-2008. If I load default values I can get into Windows Vista with no problems, but if I change a single setting the board doesn't like to post. I've contacted ASUS about the issue.
