HD 4850 strange colors on moving images

Post by kkkkman »

Hi!
I wonder if any of you have the same problem or know the solution to mine. I will try to describe it and hope if there is some "technical" word for it, you can tell me.

Problem description
The thing is, I've noticed that sometimes I see some strange colors simmilar to what happens when you put a magnet near a CRT monitor.
It happens, for example:
When I drag an image which has got 2 simmilar colors fading one into another, for example in the skin of a face or arm, which has different "pinks" because of the light.
This happens while watching a movie, too.
In this situations the colors form stripes instead of blending smoothly. Like isobars on a weather map.
When dragging the catalyst control panel window with the "color" tab selected, the small square which contains every color, gets some black circles. (I thing this may be ralated to the same problem).

My system
ASUS RADEON HD 4850
Catalyst drivers: 2008.1201.1504.27008
Windows Vista 32 bits
AMD 5600+
3 GB RAM
Monitor: SAMSUNG SynMaster 2032 BW

edit:
1680x1050 32bits 60 Hz

Thank you very much!

Are you in full 32bit colour on your windows display settings?

Yes.
In 16 bit mode I get V-Sync problems, too.

Are the connectors for the monitor properly in?

Sorry this is so general basic troubleshooting, but I've never heard of anything like this before, so don't really know what else to suggest.

cable checked.
No problem with still or slow moving images. If I pause de video, the image is perfect.

It is something like that. (treated it with Photoshop, since I cannot screen capture it "wrong")

^^ don't be so evil minded! That's part of a face and headhair. But you are free to see in it whatever you want it to be ^^

Now seriously, what did you exactly do? How does it go away? You have some hardware/software in common?

Id recommend uninstalling your video drivers, rebooting, running driver cleaner pro, then installing a freshly downloaded copy of the catalyst drivers.

Then try reinstalling video codecs (KLite codec pack is a good place to get codecs for updating/reinstalling codecs already installed).

Thank you for your quick answers!

Yes, I already got KLite codec pack installed. But I don't think it's codec related, because dragging still images around produces the same efect.
I'll try reinstalling catalyst drivers agian.
