Upgrade from GeForce MX440 to Radeon 9550=downgrade?

Post by GrooveEpidemic »

Hey guys, first post here! Great board you've got. I've been lurking for a few days and decided to join.

Anyway, I was wondering if I could get some insight on a problem I've got here. I noticed in an older thread, this guy was having a problem kind of similar to mine here, but it doesn't seem any of the suggested solutions worked.
http://forums.legitreviews.com/about5608.html

I recently made a slight upgrade from a GeForce MX440 to a Radeon 9550 since my brother got a new card and didn't need the Radeon.

However, my problem is kind of backwards. I haven't noticed any decrease in gameplay. Instead, I've noticed a very annoying lag between minimizing/maximizing windows, slower web page loading, slow scrolling up/down of webpages, etc. all of which weren't there with the MX440.

I've uninstalled all the previous nVidia drivers/software and un/reinstalled the most up to date ATI drivers from their website about 4 times now, with no results. I guess it would make more sense if I experienced worse gameplay, but since that's not the case, this is kinda weird. :?

Any advice/insight would be greatly appreciated. I'm itching to just put the MX440 back in and forget about the whole thing.

Did you completly remove the NVidia driver. I had the same type of issue when i upgraded from my leadtek ti-4400 to a 9800 pro. There is a program on the web that you can use to remove all traces of the nvidia driver. I will look and see if i can find it.
EVGA nForce 680i SLI board, XFX GeForce 7950GT@641/1244, Corsair XMS2 2GB DDR2 800 TWIN2X2048-6400C4 (4-4-4-12) 2.1v, Core 2 Duo E6400 (3.0ghz) at 56c max stock cooling, 2 Seagate Barracuda sata 3.0gb 320gb not raid yet and 550watts

old board at 3.2 stock videocard settings / new board at 3.0 oc video card / 3.2 & oc video card

Try this program. You can wipe out every trace of NVidia drivers, and hopefully that will help.

Hey guys, thanks for the replies.

Unfortunately, using that program didn't help. Still having all the same problems. Any other ideas?

What's the name of this old uninstaller? Is it another program or an older version of the program you suggested above? I can try to find it.

What motherboard are you using?
Try reinstalling the motherboard chipset drivers, uninstall the gfx drivers first, then reinstall the gfx one after installing the chipset drivers.

If your unsure what motherboard it is, run CPUZ and click on the "mainboard tab" it will show you what chipset your board has.

Also, AFAIK that ATI card doesn't have a fan on the heatsink? you could try running the system with the pc case open and a fan blowing air on the card........if it improves, then heat is an issue. (mayby the heatsink isn't getting good contact)

The motherboard is just a Syntax SV266A, and the Chipset: VIA KT266A & 8235. I think I have the most up to date chipset drivers since this mb model is a few years old and they've stopped making new ones (I think?), but I'll give both of your suggestions a try! Thanks.

EDIT: kenc51, I tried both of your suggestions, but neither seemed to do the trick. Argh.

Make sure hardware acceleration is enabled!

goto start/run and type "dxdiag"
Make sure DirectDraw acceleration & Dirext3D acceleration is enabled!
While you there, also run th basic tests.

Also r-click your desktop, goto properties / setttings / advanced / troubleshoot........make sure "Hardware acceleration" is on full.

Hey, Ken

Gave those a shot before I made this thread and no luck. Any other ideas?
