New low/mid range ATI Graphics

Well if there are things were AMD/ATI failed is in this cards

memory bus from 64 to 128bits??? What's this??? The, by the look of it, not so old X800, x1800, x1900, x1950... had 256 bits, and even the x1650pro (128 bits) the new 2400/2600... these cards aren't made for extreme gamers neither for soft gamers... they are made for those people you doesn't understand "cheta" of PC's...
AMD/ATI says that these card's are made for low-mid range PC's turned to HD playback??? Who is going to buy a Low end PC for HD playback

The tech "brains" at AMD/ATI must go visit the Doc because they are becoming to get crazy the only card that saves the falling house is the 2900XT, and even this one is having a hard time doing so...

Yeah it is a shame that the whole ATI lineup is lacking this generation. I do hope they can hang in there and make a comeback next round.

But the thing you have overlooked with the 256bit bus is that all those cards you quoted were top of the range cards at some point. The 128 bit bus (and maybe 64 in the extreme low cost cards) is a regular cheat in making them more affordable. They tended to have to clock the memory higher to get better performance on a 128 bit bus (compared to the same with a 256bit bus).

Basically anything below the top of the mid cards (say like the 8600GTS (not even the 2600XT is any good imo)) is appalling for gaming.

Correct me if I'm wrong... but isn't the 2600XT the top of the range for this series? Being so, where is the 256b-bus?!? If the 2600Pro had a 128bit and the XT a 256bit this would be better, booth for AMD/ATI and Costumers... I believe

2900, x1900, x800 etc are top of the range
2600, x1600, x700 are midrange
2400, 1300, x300 are low end

Then you get the XT, pro, XTX etc within each range >_<

Only the top of the range had the 256bit bus, so the x700 has a 128 bit, and the 300 probably has a 64 bit.

This is not very easy to define... the range of the cards... some reviewers place the X800 GT in the midrange, as you know this board, if I'm not mistaken had 128 or 256bit bus, so my point is that a possible good move for AMD/ATI is (was) to make some 2600 XT boards with this bus option... for example the 2600 with DDR4 with a 256bit bus would be a very good midrange board or no?

I know what you mean there, but while the performance may be midrange, the card is from the top range of the x X00 series. The x800 range (including the x800) also only had the 256 bit bus.

The reason they can't just throw in a 256bit bus 2600 is that it would require a whole new expensive redesign to use the bigger bus. This would make the 2600 even more expensive and closer in price to the 2900's. So while a nice idea, not very practical I'm afraid.
