Big problems! Flashing textures in all 3d applications!

Post by cammo35 »

Hi all.

I am really in a mess here and im completly lost in what to do next.

I have a Radeon X800 pro, 7-9 video drivers, windows professional xp.

Recently i have been having problems with all games. The problem is that bad that i can not play any game at all now. I have formatted, tried re-installing old drivers but no luck, this problem just wont go away.

What happens is when ever play any game, randomly through out it i get huge textures flashing in the shape of triangles which ends up covering all the screen. They come and they go all the time throughout any game. I have attached an example to show you what i mean.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers.

I'm guessing you've used driver cleaner and all that inbetween driver installs and removed them correctly... If you've done a full format like you said and it still does this with a clean install you can bet that it's the card.

If thats the case it looks like a memory IC went bad or something on the card failed... If it's still under warranty it's time to get an RMA number and send it back.

Yeah i tried driver clean and still no go. Thats why i decided to format to see if that would fix it. Unforntunatly the card is not under warrenty anymore so it looks like i will have to purchase a new one.....Ouch!

Its come to that time for an upgrade anyway, u know how it goes though if i get a new video card then i need a new motherboard and a new cpu.

Thankyou very much for your help.

Well not so fast, Nate tends to be good on these things. Is the card overheating? Is it overclocked?

how long since you took it out and cleaned the heatsink? How about does the fan still work? those are problems you'll see on older cards. my x800 got so clogged with dust it overheated. :P but it was fine after I cleaned it and put a new layer of AS on it.

Ok, card is not overclocked and the fan is still working and not overheating as far as i can tell. I will pull the card out and have a good look at it and see if any of these other factors could be effecting it.

An update, checked card and cleaned away all dust and applied new AS.

Tried running a game and still no luck.

I'm having the same problem. I have a fairly new gateway with dual x1900 video cards in a crossfire configuration(OEM) and any 3-D rendered program will randomly cause these kinds of bugs.

I'm running xp profressional, and I seem to have different variations of this issue with different programs.

Playing EQ2 there will be various terrain polygons missing, causing a transparent section in a floor/wall/etc. They still clip, but cannot be seen. Also, in EQ2 certain objects will stretch out infinitely across the screen causing a strip of texture to stretch across the screen, kind of like when you take a tiny picture and set it as your wallpaper and have it stretch to fill the desktop - I've also seen this behavior playing WoW.

Playing MxO and Tomb Raider Anniversary occasionally giant polygons will flash across the screen like a strobe randomly straining your eyes and making it unplayable in that state.

In all variations forcing the PC to redraw the game (either by switching between full screen mode and windowed or minimizing and then maximizing the application) will fix the problem temporarily. I stress temporarily because it could be just around the next corner (virtually speaking) that another glitch shows up.

I've tried searching for solutions but it's a hard problem to articulate to a search engine so I haven't had much luck, but I've tried all the usual suspects(updating drivers, driver cleaner, etc.) and so far no joy. I'd love any insight folks may have on this problem.

When all else fails, swap out the video card, although that can be a real problem when running duals. #-o
