catalyst 7.8 and driver problems

I just got Vista ultimate 64_bit on my laptop.

My video card is ATI RADEON x1200 series.

I downloaded the 64_bit version of catalyst, but my computer isn't recognizing the driver and the control center isn't being downloaded.

How do I get the drivers I need?

Right now under device manager- under display adapter- It says standard VGA graphics adapter.

Not to hijack the thread or anything, however I am having problems with 7.8 drivers on my x1800xt, don't seem to be working right as far as I can tell. could be my graphics card dieing on me, but it seems to be just since I reformatted. I'll have to try some more to see for sure.

I don't think there's a need to install the 7.8's if your running a x1800 series. I think DAMIT have stopped developing drivers for that series.

If your using a laptop, the ATI drivers are prolly not supported. I know Dell refuse to allow ATI to support their cards. The drivers will work, but the driver won't install.
You'll have to install the drivers from the laptop manufacturer or else use a tool called "Mobility Modder" to install them

:edit:
The tool in the above link works!

Hmmm I'm going to try that tool but it doesn't say it supports the x1200.

I am on a laptop and it's integrated video.
