Each Reformat Yields New Problems

So I reformatted a little while back. I needed to move to xp32 from xp64 in order to use my wireless card. I did it, except now I can't seem to use dvi on my monitor. I'm about 90% sure monitor still works correctly. I've tried multiple releases of the catalyst same problem.
1. DVI works in bios/windows xp load screen
2. Screen goes black and won't return at windows xp welcome screen
3. Xp is loaded in the background I believe (heard login noise by clicking the button by accident)
4. Monitor works when I use dvi to vga adapter on my graphics card and use vga cord to monitor.
5. Monitor is a bit beat up, but picture is fine in this and seems fine when it does show up on dvi in bios.
6. have had similar driver related issues involving no signal from hibernate/turning off of monitor, never at this point though
7. computer works dvi-hdmi to parents lcd tv also (no signal until windows login screen: exact opposite scenario)
Any Ideas anyone? anybody here have an x1800xt that is running the newest driver version on 32bit windows xp? Especially if you are using dvi cord to your monitor.

So now it's my goal to find a catalyst driver version that doesn't cause me this problem. If I uninstall the driver DVI works fine, just no 3D. Lucky me, I can't stand Vga (dsub) cuz it alwasy bugs out between programs. I just tried 7.8, 7.9, and 6.10. Next I'll do 6.11 and just go up till it owrks or i'll start trying to find older ones somewhere until it is fixed. Tried my monitor on my parents computer, my brothers computer all on dvi didn't work after windows loaded. This isn't a fair assumption as All of them have ATI cards too probably with the same version of catalyst i have. so i need to try it on an nvidia dvi port and see if it works still for sure, and if so then I need to find out what the driver problem is and why so few people are reporting it online because if it is a problem then everyone using dvi with a x1k series and windows xp 32bit should be having problems. on all these catalyst versions. that seems too large a scope so I'm starting to think it's my monitor. :(

Update*: No Luck.
6.8
6.9
6.10

I've never been able to get DVI working with mine either (same screen), and I'm on a 8800 GTS. I'm not sure it's just an Ati problem... :|
