HD 2900 HDMI

Post by viss3r »

Hey eveyone, i'll just start off with my specs i have a Winfast NForce4 Board with an 4400+ X2 2 gigs of ram and a new HD2900XT 512 Meg PCIe and a PCI (Not PCIe) Radeon 9000 128 meg.

I have the 2 cards because i have always run 3 or 4 monitor's the 4th being my samsung LCD TV Since i installed the new video card i haven't really tried to get the 2nd card running because i have been working on these 2 other problems.

The first problem is I originaly had the 2900 Hooked into the PC Input on my TV and everything was pristine, but in windows i could only run 1240 by 800 something res (when i should be able to go up to 1900 by 1080) but it only ran in 4:3 not 16:9 So everything looked stretched, and you would know all the other problems that come with that i could set it to 16:9 in games but in windows i couldn't work out how to, and that sucked for movies. So i got the HDMI Cable and i can run the Full res and it seems to be running in 16:9 And there is options for configuring in the Control center. But the picture is shocking, reading text of it is painful its almost as bad as Svideo i have spend hours in Catalyst with all the different Resolutions and refresh rates and i can't make it look better. Would a better quality HDMI cable fix this? I didn't think it would but...

Or is this how HDMI always looks, i thought it was meant to look as good as a DVI connection if not then i will just go back to DVI.

The Other problem is audio i installed all the drivers to run the Audio through the HDMI cable and set the 2900 up as the sound card to be used in control panel and the HDMI cable heads into my TV then i have RCA cables coming out of the Audio out connections on my TV into my speakers and i get no sound. I have Both the 360 and Wii Heading into the TV's composite connections and the exact same audio set up, Speakers out of the Audio out connectors on the TV and i get sound.

Any help would be great. The sound problem isn't that big i can just set it up to use the other sound card, but thats a bit annoying. And i mentioned the 2nd card not having drivers at the moment in case someone thought it might be causing a problem. Thanks for your help

I run HDMI output through my 2600XT and play 1080P movies with my XBOX 360 HD DVD player with no issues at all. Text on the web and desktop are also perfect... It sounds like you must have a bad cable. I've run $100 HDMI cables and $3 six foot HDMI cables and the picture difference is not noticeable. I'd just try a different HDMI cable as something doesn't sound right.

Just curious... are you using a rev a or rev b HDMI adapter?

The original ones have it stamped on the side of the black casing (of the adapter).

Yeah its Rev A....

And sorry about the super slow reply, i got audio working though. I'm pretty sure it wasnt working before because of my power supply i was running a 430W Thermaltake. (I know not nearly enough but it worked) But i have an 850 Coolmaster now.
