I'm going to get a 3850 hopefully today or tomorrow. but, my question is
Everyone CLAIMS I need the 512 vs the 256 since my monitor is 1680 x 1050. In reality it makes sense. More video ram for more resolution. But, I've never seen a benchmark prove this. The only one I see is the Fear one where the guy has 1gb of ram and the 512 lets him use more features. This is because his total ram is used up tho. Not because of video ram making it stall. Fear uses over 1.25gb maxed out and you have 1gb ram .25 video. ~ 1.25 with the 512 obviously its 1.5. Now anyone have any confirmation saying that with the 256 I'm losing performance and not just .1% difference. Like an actual number/? I play a few different games and ram is not a problem I have plenty for todays games at least. Right now I'm using a 8600gt it will improve reguardless. the card was great when it debut at 100 dollars nothing was close for the price. But, now games need more.

Re: vram
I've actually been benchmarking a pair of 3870's for a couple days on the test bench... The article will be posted on Monday if you'd like to hold tight. It will include CrossFire numbers also and I have added Call of Duty 4 to the test bench...
The benchmarking will include -
Crysis
Call of Duty 4
Bioshock
Company of Heroes
World in Conflict
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Call of Juarez
3DMark 2006
Lightsmark 2007
I have single card testing done now, just wrapping up CrossFire today and then I have to take all the pictures, edit them, make the graphics and write it all.. hehe
If you want to see the graph for one game now I'd be more than happy to drop what I'm doing and make it for you. I tested call of duty 4 at 1920x1200 btw.

Re: vram
damn I didn't realize the 3870 was stronger than the 8800gts. Nice.
AWE look at my lil 8600 chillaxin at the bottom of the list with a tiny little bar of under 15.

Re: vram
just asking the same question as the first post. Does having 512mb vram matter? Not just the 8800gt case thats cause the card isn't the same. but, like the 3850. 512 vs 256 is it worth it?
