my OEM 3870 X2 1GB video card isn't working;

today i got some RAM and the Cooler Max 550W PSU, i swapped out the RAM, then the PSU, then the Video card( x850XT for the X2)and when i powered up, everything worked fine(as far as fans and drive spinning) but the monitor didn't come out of sleep mode, and after ~10sec i hear a beep, from spkr i assume, but possibly mobo, or maybe even the card, i dunno, so is the sound normal, and why do i get no video, do i need to wait longer??

You sure you have all the Power Connectors in?

What are the Model and the Specs of the PSU?

Cleared the CMOS?

Try swapping around the molex to PCIe adaptor (you should be using) to one of the other molex 'strings' coming out of the PSU (hopefully they will be on a different 12v rail), there's a chance that both PCIe ports are drawing from the same rail so changing that might split it better.

next time i get some free time i suppose i'll try that

the wierdest thing about my upgrade, i added RAM and a PSU, so all of a sudden, no ethernet :shock: still don't know wtf caused that, right now i'm using a 10 year old ethernet PCI card :-k

well, i tried switching the connector around a bit, but it still makes the double beep after about 6-7 sec and no video at all

Did you clear the CMOS?

If you did then it's probably a power issue, do you think the beep is from teh card or the mobo, try looking up POST beep codes if you can find them for your board.

no, i did not really see any reason the CMOS would have an effect, if you could explain why it would, then i would gladly put the card back in and try yet again

and it sounds like it's from the card, but i didn't really hear it specifically

try ungluging all your hardrives, disk drives removing all unecesary add in cards, all but one stick of ram etc. just run the mobo, cpu power, and the card, and the heatsink fan (NOTHING ELSE NO FANS OR ANYTHING) and see what happens

CMOS doesn't help and the double beep is from the motherboards speaker(located about 2mm below where the dualslot cooling cover is)
