Probably asking a question I already know the answer to. Still I'm curious.

A little history:
ATI Radeon x550 started to give me huge artifacts. Even while displaying the initial ASUS motherboard logo.
-Removed everything possible. Right from Keyboard to 2nd memory stick.
-Reseated card.
-Removed/cleaned/reinstalled 3rd party video card cooler.
-Cleared motherboard's CMOS.
-Reduced graphics settings via safemode. Was able to boot to 'normal' mode.
-Flashed video card bios. After this, was able to use my regular 1680x1050 resolution.

Now things are looking great most of the time. But try gaming, playing a video,
or what really baffles me... the left hand column in Control Panel, it's all corrupted
with artifacts. I had a new 500gb drive, so I installed XP on it thinking it might
be software... but it did the same thing. So it's gotta be a hardware issue.

Really wish I had another card to swap but I don't. Knowing my luck, I'll get another
card just to find out the motherboard is the problem. Anyone got a suggestion other
then replace the card? I wanted to replace, but more when I could afford something
better then a 'budget' unit.

sounds to me could be memory on the vid card is bad.

That would make sense. When it hits higher needs usage, it messes up. I just wouldn't of
though openning up control panel for example would of taxed the card as hard as say a video.

Doesn't really matter how taxing it is, both 2D and 3D still use the same onboard VGA memory. Got an image of this control panel corruption?
