DOH almost 90c GPU

Post by fordmayhem »

Ati Radeon Sapphire HD3650.

Brand new today 512mb DDR2 Version. very nice..... indeed.

I have a P4 2.8ghz

305W Psu

PCI x16 Lane

I put in GPU, install drivers.

Fan does not work. at all.

Any time during anything my fan is not working.. I have SpeedFan software ( or the other way round)

And it does now show up my gpu fan... there is no way to control the fan in the CCC...

I need help.. i can cook eggs on this thing.

I lowered the GPU clock to 600mhz and i have it on idle at 66 degrees with my 80mm Fan keeping it cool.

I also unplugeed the fan, re plugged... nothing.

Can anyone help me on this situation? All i want to do is play some games!

thanks.

By the way, ATI customer Care SUCKS if you live in England.

If the fan does not work at all , maybe you need to return it?

Grab rivatuner or ATI tool and see if you can set a fan speed in there.

that sucks... can always try to spin the fan with your finger to make sure it can spin and doesn't have a locked up bearing. Sometimes fans get suck and need a jump start by moving the fan. If that doesn't work and you already plugged it in and out then I'd RMA it... I'm guessing it didn't spin before you installed the driver also... correct?

Correct

I have just installed the GPU on another computer ( a custom one)

And it still does not work. so i thought maybe graphics card....

So i took this 3650's heatsink and fan off, the fan moves freely, and i connected it to another graphics card.. And still nothing..

So im thinking there is obviously something to do with umm the motor not working? thats all i can think of... it does move freely.. but not as free as other fans.

Ill rma i guess >.<

quite mad. :snakeman:

i want a free ati 4850 or what ever for this outrage! i have waited ages for this graphics card!

contacted ATI with a ticket, and they were blabbing on about the software and how to use it.

Just sent a ticket to sapphire, going to find out what they say.

if they dont come up with a solution im just going to RMA.

ATI responce:

If the Power Supply watatge output is sufficient, you may return the card to the vendor and claim an exchange, or contact Sapphire for your warranty claim:

If the card is working properly aside from the fan you could just change to a different cooler for it. They perform better anyway. I know its a pain in the ass either way but its quicker than a rma. Especially if you you can pick up a cooler locally. Just make sure the fan header works first.

not sure where you live, but since you will have to pay shipping to RMA the card you might just want to buy an aftermarket cooler...

Ones like this are in the $20 range and if it costs you $10 to ship it back to RMA it then I'd just get one of these - http://forums.legitreviews.com/about16412.html

That's a good point nate.

You can get an Accelero S1 for ~£15, and they work pretty well even under passive mode.
To make the cooling active there is the turbo module for another £6 (scan.co.uk), alternatively you can either ghetto tie some kind of fan on it, or have a PCI exhaust blower right underneath the S1.

So if you don't fancy the hassle of sending your card back to get it replaced, then you can check out 3d party graphics card heatsinks.
