Possible incomplete removal of Catalyst Control

Hi Guys,

Recently I had to rebuild my computer by replacing the motherboard and CPU as my existing system was failing and didn't seem to like my new 3850HD card.

My original setup was a dual core 4800+ AMD processor (939) format, so this is why I decided to buy a new mobo and cpu as I had already tried another mobo and it wouldn't work properly (939 socket mobo's are hard to find now).

Anyway I ended up with a Gigabyte board with an Intel processor, along with new memory since my old DDR memory wasn't suitable for the board.

To cut a long story short, when I built the new system I used my new 3850HD card and reformatted my drive, re-installed WinXPSP3 (slipstreamed) and downloaded all the Windows updates. I had also installed the complete 8.8 package (including Catalyst Control Centre) that I had downloaded prior to the re-build.

Unfortunately I was having random issues with the system and after searching the FAQ on the ATI site, I came across a message saying that I should uninstall CCC, uninstall .NET 2.0, re-install .NET 2.0 and then re-install CCC.

I did the uninstall of both CCC and .NET 2.0 and found everything was nice and stable, so I thought "why bother re-installing CCC, and therefore why bother doing .NET 2.0?"

The only issue is when Windows boots, it has a dialogue message which says "Microsoft .NET framework 2.0 is required to run ATI Catalyst Control Center. Please download and install the software from Microsoft's website."

This implies that CCC didn't fully uninstall, yet there is nothing left in "Add/remove" for me to remove, so what else do I need to do to ensure that CCC is totally removed from my system?

I have done a search for this issue but most things just come back about uninstalling CCC as it's not needed for most people and is a drain on resources.

Thanks

Did you install the stand-alone drivers after removing all of the CCC stuff? If there is anything ATI left in your add/remove programs, uninstall it.

Then try running driver cleaner pro in safe mode:

Tell it to remove all things ATI.

And lastly re-install the graphics drivers only from the ATI website.
(You might need to install the .net framework 2.0 again though if you haven't already, more than just the ATI programs will use it)
